The B F Goodrich company matched moves by Goodyear and Firestone granting hourly raises across seven plants. The contract extends beyond November 15 1946 to June 25 1949 and includes three week vacations for fifteen year service workers. About 17000 employees affected with base rates around 1.63 dollars per hour. Westinghouse Air Brake and Union Switch and Signal also gave a 12 cent across the board raise to about 8500 CIO production workers.

In Los Angeles a wife obtained a divorce from Everett Dunn citing his heavy coffee habit of fifteen to twenty cups daily as the cause. The judge granted the decree amid the testimony. In Youngstown on June 26 Mrs Harold Wiseman was bathing when a radio slipped into the tub and electrified the water. Firemen reported the accident as a fatal shock.

James Taylor Chuculate Jr. of Sunflower Village died after being hit by a car near his home in Lawrence. The driver Howard Niemoeller 32 said the child darted into the road at about fifteen mph, tire marks show skid of 22 feet. The child was visiting a neighbor and was being treated at the hospital. Niemoeller was not arrested.
The army calls reserve officers and enlisted men to return to active duty briefly to train draftees under the selective service act. Secretary Royall announced the effort in Norfolk Virginia. About 1,250 reserve officers per month may be called and volunteers sought for nine to twelve months. Training will occur at eight centers including Fort Dix New Jersey Knox Kentucky Ord California and Camp Jackson Mississippi. Basic training will drop from thirteen to eight weeks.
James Frank Comley called The Fox pleaded guilty in Wyandotte County District Court to burglary and grand larceny. He was sentenced to an indeterminate term at the Kansas State Reform School in Hutchinson for the January 17 Argentine high school office burglary. Charges from the P J Byrne Lumber Co break in were not pursued.
Governor Fielding L. Wright stated the dormant secret police force could be mobilized if needed amid renewed bus strike violence against the Southern Bus Company. He affirmed the organization remains lawful and anti violence laws are still in effect.
The Missouri political action committee plans to support six candidates in the August primary for major state offices. Reportedly the slate includes Forrest Smith for governor, James T. Blair Jr. for lieutenant governor, R. W. Winn for secretary of state, Mount Etna Morris for revenue chief, Buck vs the for attorney general, and W. 4H. Holmes Vienna for auditor, with details discussed at the PAC executive session.
North Carolina Democrats held a second primary to pick a governor candidate in a one party state. Charles M. Johnson and W Kerr Scott led a six man field on May 29 with Johnson ahead by 8 848 votes. Johnson faces Republican John A Wilkinson in November.
Kenneth C. Royall announced plans for a mobile striking force of eighteen divisions by 1949, six of them National Guard units in Massachusetts Pennsylvania Vermont Rhode Island Oklahoma and Texas. The force aims for full training and maximum equipment, with twelve regular divisions and six guard divisions forming the nucleus for a larger army and ready for immediate action in emergencies. The new units include the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg and the 2nd Infantry at Fort Lewis with other divisions to be expanded or formed.
Chubby the fox terrier of Mr. and Mrs. H W Humholtz of 6013 Chestnut avenue is recovering at a veterinarian's after eating ground glass. The dog, outdoors yesterday with their son Russell, 7, grew listless by noon and near death by 5 pm before vet treatment revealed the ground glass in the stomach.
The AP reports that Southeast Kansas faces continued flood danger as showers move through. Neosho River is expected to crest about one foot above bankfull at Neosho tonight. Verdigris River may reach bankfull at Independence and Coffeyville tomorrow with no overflow unless rains worsen. Republican River overflows slight at Clay Center but recedes. Marais des Cygnes rise continues below Ottawa with likely yet slight overflow near La Cygne.
William Green of the American Federation of Labor said the AFL will never back the Dewey-Warren Republican ticket after a meeting with President Truman. He criticized the Republican platform and Dewey's record as governor, calling the 15 minute visit a chance to urge Keen Johnson for labor secretary and to restore the Labor Department’s authority.
In Indianapolis on June 26 AP reports the International Brotherhood of Teamsters may not back Green and the AFL in opposing the Dewey Warren ticket. A teamsters spokesman says the union will consider the national political picture at a Washington delegate assembly, likely in September.
