President Truman signed a bill to admit 205000 European war refugees over two years, with 2000 Czechoslovakians and 3000 displaced orphans under 16 among them. He called the measure imperfect and issued a lengthy statement criticizing parts of the bill. About 15000 aliens already in the U S could gain permanent residence if conditions are met.
The U S Atomic Energy Commission announced plans to establish a chemical laboratory in New Brunswick New Jersey at a cost of more than one million dollars. Wilbur E. Kelley, manager of the commission's New York operations, said the lab will provide precise analytical quality control of special materials used in the atomic energy program.

Lem T Jones, Y M C A president, names a special committee to find a new executive secretary nationwide. Miller came to KC Y M C A five years ago succeeding C G Lord after twelve years. He previously served four years as assistant general secretary in Chicago. He lives at 7232 Jarboe Street.
