Anniversary Convocation Marks Kalamazoo College’s 125th Year

The 125th anniversary convocation at Kalamazoo College will be a three day event starting April 22 featuring speakers Charles P. Taft former Cincinnati mayor and F C Council of Churches leader Dr. Nels Ferre of Andover Newton Seminary Dr. E Harris Harbison of Princeton University and Taft. The theme is In Quest of Learning Liberal and Christian.

Convocation at First Presbyterian Church Features Noted Theologian

Dr Nels Frederik Solomon Ferre of Andover Newton Theological Seminary opens the convocation on Sunday April 20 with Liberal Learning and the Life of Faith at the First Presbyterian Church South Street near City Hall Bronson Park. Dr E Harris Harbison of Princeton, Henry Charles Lea Professor of History, speaks Monday April 21 on Liberal Learning An Enduring Quest.

Students Shine in State Peace Oratory at Hope College

Eva Jon Sperling of Flint won second in women's oratory with I Wanted a Gun. Terry Eads of Fort Wayne placed fourth in men's oratory with To End Life on Earth. Kalamazoo College students spoke in extempore. Mary Ellen Steketee and Peter Walcott presented Cultural Differences. Hope College won both firsts in oratory. Calvin College swept extemp. Knights of Pythias funded the $100 awards. Nelda K Balch judged the four contests.

Seminar for WJMD Station Manager Post

Students may apply for the salaried WJMD Station Manager position this semester by February 22. Applications go to Laura Smith Fred Jackson or Larry Eisenstein with qualifications objectives and policy proposal per By-Laws. The Communications Committee will review all entries and forward recommendations to the Senate for final appointment.

Washington Banquet Promises Spectacular Formal Dance

The Washington Banquet, oldest school tradition, will be held in Welles Hall with a 6:30 p.m. dinner and 8:30 p.m. to midnight dance. An exotic buffet, ice sculpture decorations, and a well known speaker headline the event with Bobby Davidson leading a 13 piece band.

Holmer to Speak on Existentialism at Chapel

Dr. Paul Holmer of the University of Minnesota will discuss What is Existentialism in a 7:45 p.m. Chapel program Friday February 27 as part of series E. Holmer, a leading interpreter of Kierkegaard, is noted as a central figure in American existential philosophy.

Ghosts cast announced for March Bowed performance

The March production of Ghosts features Judith Sweitzer as the Maid Regina Engstrand and James Guimond as Jacob Engerstrand. Marjorie May plays Mrs Alving with William Vincent as Parson Manders and Robert Clapp as Oswald Alving. Performances March 7 and 8 in Bowen Auditorium in arena style.
