Six College Societies Shape Pledging on Campus

Fund Drive Passes Goal for 1955 Campaign
The 16th Annual Fund Drive exceeded its 1955 $85 000 goal by over $20 000 and may top 1954 records with final receipts. More than 500 new donors joined and alumni participation rose to 33 percent, above 1954 and the national average. Leadership included M Lee Johnson as general chairman and Marilyn Hinkle coordinating the drive. Funds totaling over $106 000 plus a $15 000 challenge gift will support 1955 56 operating expenses.

Modern Facilities to be Installed in New Upton Wing
Upton Science Hall new wing to be completed by March 1, 1956 will house Biology and Math departments with seven laboratories including Botany on ground floor Biology Lab for fifty on second floor and Natural History Anatomy Embryology and Microtech labs on third floor. Engineering Drawing Lab on fourth floor. Large ground floor lecture room for about two hundred with audio visual equipment and multi use access for outside groups. Second and third floors provide smaller lecture rooms and three classrooms on the fourth floor. Exhibition and social room with kitchen for outside groups and seminars.
Trowbridge to Get New Wing
A Kalamazoo College board donor contributes 27500 toward a new dormitory wing for Mary Trowbridge House. planning follows November 11 1955 trustees meeting to finance a housing program, with work to enlarge Harmon and Hoben Halls starting spring and aim to add 30 beds by 1957. President Hicks expresses confidence in meeting the schedule.
