Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration to offer fifty five $50,000 scholarships regionally to men entering the school in September. Fifteen Midwest awards available. The Ege College Singers and music department present Smetana’s comic opera The Bartered Bride at Central Pool Auditorium next Saturday January 14. Henry Keifer conducts the 36 vocalists with Don John Scott Everton cast as Marie and Marvin Mertz as Kezal. Cast includes John Fenner Bill McCandliss Delores Hendrych Marilyn Snyder Louellen Crothers and Charles Van Zoeren. Tickets available at South Street Music House or by advance reservations in Bowen Hall.
Famous rabbit Harvey returns to stage when Mary Chase created the Pulitzer winning play. James Dunn leads a New York cast as Elwood Dowd for the one night engagement at the State Theatre on January 12 with mail orders and box office tickets available.
Fifteen underprivileged Kalamazoo children from the Third Street Community Center enjoyed a Christmas party in Harmon Lounge on December 14. George Berry played Saint Nick as dormitory men provided games, candy, and presents, with entertainment led by Al Wits and Joe D Augostino. Gordon Dolbee and dorm officers organized the annual event aided by faculty wives and Men's Union funds.
Dr. R. Lloyd Pobst director of public relations at the college since 1947 has accepted a call to become minister of the First Baptist Church in Jackson Michigan. He began preaching January first and his family will join about January fifteenth.
The Index extends condolences to Dr. Ethel Kaump and Hal Knight 49 on the loss of their fathers during the holiday season. The college community marks the passing of two fine men and friends.
Paul Makovsky, Swedish born violinist trained in Paris, will headline a recital at Central High School auditorium presented by Kalamazoo Community Concert Association. He has toured the U S since 1940 with conductors including Koussevitzky and Cortot. WKZO news program time changes to 4 45 to 5 00 Wednesdays to fit student listeners.
