The Kazoo unit held a post Christmas celebration as their men await discharge amid red tape. Officers praised the soldiers for cooperation and urged staying in college. A stag feed with oysters and turkey capped the evening, with speeches by Lieuts. Miller Lavery Stetson and first Sergeant Staake sharing the spotlight.
The neversweat squad led by Jack Beaher cleans and repairs the men's dormitory, making it habitable again for civilians. Volunteers from the city assist with painting varnishing and plumbing as residents move back in. Y W C A meetings shift to 4 30 and mission study classes start soon with new programs planned.

Mrs. Lottie B. Dunnington wife of L L Dunnington of Kalamazoo died in Grand Rapids December 20 from Spanish influenza. Funeral held last Sunday at 8:30 am burial in Grand Rapids. She leaves parents and relatives in Grand Rapids. L L Dunnington, a returned Y M C A worker from Russia, ill with influenza but improving, is a Kalamazoo man and Y M C A alumnus who has lectured in Russia and Europe and plans to return to France soon.
The County Patriotic League schedules a meeting next week to plan a local fund drive for the Y M C A Y W C A and wartime activities. The goal is 1500 dollars as Kalamazoo College pledges firm support and other colleges in the state are noted for high per man contributions. The county campaign will start before January ends with volunteers urged to prepare to participate.

Colonel Joe Westnedge a Kalamazoo College football star died November 19 at the American Base hospital in Nantes France after a severe ton silitis attack linked to front exposure and subsequent heart disease. He served in the Michigan National Guards rising from lieutenant to colonel and led Co C 32nd Infantry during the Spanish American War and later.
College authorities planned one week off for holidays but the board of health closed all institutions a week early due to illness. Exams were scheduled during that week, making the surprise vacation welcome for the students and particularly the animals.
Printer error omitted three names in our last issue. The full 1918 K Men football roster should read Towsley Mishica Burlingham Read Learned Jones Hobbs Linihan McKay Hickmott Andrews Walker Walters Henshaw Staake captain-elect.

Following the S A T C unit disbandment annual literary interests revive among college men. Nec November 4 meetings formed committees to reorganize the Sherwood room and elect new officers. Century Forum elected Harold Andrews president Emil Pines vice president and others. Forrest Strome visited during vacation and spent Christmas at Benton Harbor.
Dr. Stetson urges students in the chapel to commit to responsible civic and moral preparation for a peaceful world. He warns against destructive movements abroad and emphasizes a nationwide need for educated leaders to uphold righteousness and defend liberty.
The M I AA meeting in Albion set schedules for basketball baseball and track through the year and football next fall. Officers elected include President Eddie Boyne Alma Vice presidents Green Albion Wattles Kalamazoo rotary Clark Dean Albion and Treasurer C L Herron Hillsdale. Eligibility rules allow players to return to their previous sport after service and count it as their four year limit only if they compete in another sport that year. Field Days will be held June 6 and 7 at Albion, the first since 1916, signaling a return to earlier college traditions.
A movement aims to recruit 100 plus college men to form a reserve officers' training corps unit on campus. The program provides uniforms and an officer, with weekly training hours rising from three to five over four years, plus summer camps in junior and senior years. A commission and college credit await graduates. Paul Staake collects names to establish the unit.
Lieut. Stanley Frost, stationed at Purdue, spent Christmas in the city and returned to Lafayette. He has received his discharge papers and will soon leave for Kalamazoo College.
