The Junction Publishing Co announces weekly publication rules for obituaries cards of thanks and resolutions of respect. Notices involving payment will run at regular rates with subscriptions available in Kimble and nearby counties.
The piece notes 126000 paid gate receipts near two million dollars for the Dempsey Tunney bout last Thursday with heavy rain and special trains bringing fans from major cities. It argues public funds are spent on churches and hospitals while millions engage via radio and telegraph for the fight news. It also discusses cotton production estimates for 1926 and banker-led efforts to hold cotton off the market to boost prices, urging similar action to help Texas farmers and Kimble county.
The observance runs from October 83rd to 9th with Fire Prevention Day proclamations issued by TexasGovernor Colquitt and followed by other governors across the state. Last year fires caused 14 000 deaths 16 000 injuries and 570 million in losses nationwide with Texas reporting 284 deaths and 25 million in losses. An estimated five percent of such losses are preventable and during cleanup week residents should remove fire hazards.
The Insurance Commission of Texas highlights fire losses of over 500,000 dollars per minute and 1500 deaths annually in the United States. It notes fires injure 5,000 people yearly, exceed education costs, are paid by insurance, and cause economic ruin. Two thirds are preventable and improved fire prevention is urged, with references to unclean homes and schools as risks. Also an ad seeks a male salesman for monuments in Kimble and surrounding counties with strong references for Southwest Granite Co.
