Scrap Drive by U S Army Planned for Kimble County
An all out scrap drive led by the United States Army will begin in Kimble County September 15 with ten trucks and 40 soldiers from Goodfellow Field. Lt Don Parsons directs the effort from hospital. local ranchers are urged to place scrap at mailboxes for pickup by army teams. Scouts aiding will earn a United States Seal of merit.

Free Play For Tourists Boosts Local Golf Course
Members of the Junction Golf Club extended free play to non residents and ladies visiting for the summer. The course is well kept by members with a full time caretaker, and the facility is in its best playing condition in history. Over 20 members are listed in the club treasury, and the club invites the public to play.

R. N. Winship Jr. Dies After Tragic Ranch Accident
R N Winship Jr prominent Texas youth leader died in Gatesville on Friday following injuries from a Segovia ranch accident. Funeral held at Gatesville Presbyterian Church with Rev Dr Hall. body interred in Houston. Born October 26 1901 in Abilene he led Daniel Baker College The Trail editor and student council president. He served as Brownwood principal Iraan superintendent and head of the Gatesville Boys Reformatory. Survived by wife three sons Robert III Dan and David, his parents and one brother.

Texas flyer earns Distinguished Flying Cross for brave mission
Maj. Guernsey I. Carlisle of San Antonio receives the Distinguished Flying Cross from Lt. Gen. Carl Spaatz for directing a crippled B 26 Marauder through a five Me 109 attack over El Aouina near Tunis on February 13. He landed safely after all guns were silenced. Carlisle also holds the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Clusters.
