State takeover plan for county road bonds eyed by observers
Austin observers expect the forthcoming 46th Texas Legislature to debate Norman S. Taber’s proposal for the state to issue 182.546 million dollars in 3 percent 20 year bonds to absorb county and district road indebtedness. The plan would divert auto license fees and gas tax revenue to debt service, with surplus funds returning to the Highway Department.
