Ferris Joins WACS Medical Corps at Gainesville
Second Lieutenant Irene Ferris of the WACs, daughter of Mr and Mrs M Ferris, enlisted December 15 1942 in Gainesville and served there until October before transfer to Camp Davis North Carolina. She trained as a nurse at Setons Hospital Austin prior to joining the WACs.

WAC Recruiters Staging Drive In Kimble County
A Goodfellow Field team from San Angelo began a recruiting campaign in Kimble County on Wednesday seeking women ages 20 to 50 for the Army Air Forces as Air Wacs. HQ at Hotel Las Lom as Junction through Friday. The program offers 155 job types with no special education required and closes December 7. Lt. Greene Seibold leads the team with WAC Lt. Julia Mack Pfc. Ruth Bouton and Sgt. G J Schwartz assisting.

James Allen Nixon aged 63 a Junction resident for 25 years died at home Sunday morning October 31 after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 5 at Junction Cemetery with Rev Harrall A Hall officiating. Schreiner Hodges Funeral Home in charge. Rev. Y. H. Park a native of Korea and pastor of the Korean Methodist Church in Oakland California preached at Junction Methodist Church Sunday morning and at Roosevelt Sunday night. He was a classmate of Rev. Milton H. Bohmfalk at Southwestern University Georgetown and Southern Methodist University Dallas. Park served one year in the Second Marine Battalion under Lt. Col. October Rainfall Falls Far Below 14 Year Average
October 1943 rainfall was well under the 14 year average of 2.44 inches. Only .27 inch of moisture fell for October, with the record low in 1932 at .14 inch. The month saw only three light showers.

Charlie and Allen Bishop announced they closed ranch deals with O. J. Flowers. Charlie Bishop sold 920 acres at 22.00 per acre and Allen Bishop 820 acres at 22.00 per acre. Kimble County exceeded goals in the United War Chest drive on Wednesday raising more than 2550 dollars. Troop 20 Junction Boy Scouts of America completed three weeks of First Aid training for the district meet at Sonora on Monday November 15. Fire Chief Leon R Powell Scout Master Frank Hubbell Teddy Holkamp and Don Jordan instructors led the program with Powell in charge. Next Monday night the Patrols finish review and prep for a Patrol contest to select the best unit to represent the group at Sonora. The Patrol contest occurs in the Scout Hut Wednesday night with invited parents and friends watching.
