Both circles of the Baptist W M S will meet at the church Friday afternoon May 24 at 3 30 for a business meeting. All members are urged to be present.
Local horse racing fans anticipate the gala opening of the municipal track at City Park on Friday May 24. Events include ponies from Kimble and nearby counties with free for all races and two to three matched heats. Admission is 25 cents to fund railing completion. purses and entry fees are not charged. Mayor H E Wright says the first race starts at 2 o clock.
The Eagle corrects a previous error and credits Miss Austin Durst as the May Fete director for the school event sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association. Assisting staff included Mrs. Wallace and the teachers. Helline Patterson led the minuet drill and Queen coronation. The program ran smoothly with strong crowd reception.
All boy scouts are reminded that the Junction troop will meet at the school house at o oclock Friday evening.
Members of the Jordan Volunteer Fire Department observed their annual Go-to-Church Sunday at the Presbyterian Church where Dr W P Dickey preached. After services the group and families gathered at City Park for a basket dinner with barbecued meat and prepared baskets. Olin Culberson of the State Fire Insurance Commission was scheduled to attend but could not arrive due to rain.
One hundred F A A boys from District 22A in West Texas will gather June 1 to 3 at South Llano for a three day event. Sterling City Nolan Eola Eden Kerrville Garden City Junction join to total about 100 with advisors. Events include burro polo motorcade sightseeing Seven Hundred Springs Schreiner Park and a Tuesday horse show at the track and park. Public invited to attend and visit with the boys.
County attorney Katherine Stephenson has returned to her duties after a trip to Houston.
Local senior auxiliary members have completed plans to sell memorial poppies next Saturday with the slogan Buy Me and Wear Me. The red flowers symbolize sacrifice and service for veterans and national remembrance. Proceeds support hospitalized World War veterans and ongoing war relief efforts.
The State executive committee adopted an 18 year old league age rule to take effect September 1 1936 in all contests including athletic literary artistic and commercial. Roy Bedichek noted the rule would simplify the long rule book. Storms in Texas and Oklahoma have caused heavy loss of life and property.
The Burt Fleming Post American Legion Auxiliary unit earned a certificate from the Texas Department for meeting annual major activities requirements. The local chapter thanks state headquarters for the recognition and notes that Saturday May 25 is Poppy Day with poppy sales by the auxiliary.
The Junction High School term closed with 18 boys and 15 girls earning diplomas. C W McCarroll represented the school board as diplomas were awarded. Dr W W Jackson of Westmoreland College gave the address. Lenore Riley and Ruby Simon delivered the salutatory and valedictory. The Legion honored Elizabeth Wright and George Robert Pepper with medals. Riley and Frank Goodman received university scholarships.
O T Denman will conduct Junction Church of Christ midsummer revival from June 9 through the third Sunday. Elder W W Leamons praises Denman and notes their long acquaintance and Denmans continued growth as an evangelist despite being called the boy preacher.
May rainfall in the Hill Country brings renewed vigor to farming and ranching. Kimble County reports two dry years followed by a strong start to the season with 8.07 inches of rain so far this May after 7.05 inches in May 1933, signaling a promising outlook for crops and pastures.
