George A Hoover son of Mr and Mrs Jesse Hoover volunteered for U S Navy construction on August 26 1942. He reported in Houston for a physical exam then trained in Norfolk Virginia before four days in Mississippi and transfer to San Francisco California. On November 26 he sailed for New Caledonia and has since served active duty Somewhere in the Pacific.
Seaman First Class John C. Harrell enlisted in the U S Navy on April 7 1942 and served aboard the North Hampton from June. He survived the Battle of the sinking of the Hor net on October 26 and the ship’s sinking on December 1. He later joined the Nimitz Unit and saw extensive service.
Mrs Jack Turner opened the season by selling and delivering the first registered billy to Coach Bible of Austin. She is among the Hill Country’s few women goat raisers and a pioneer of Angola goats of the better class.
James Richard Skaggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Verlan Skaggs, was born in Laredo on May 1 weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces. Grandparents Roy Skaggs look forward to meeting him and the family plans a Junction visit with the mother.

Speck lost over 100 chickens and a brooder in a rear-area fire, a loss described as negligible. The incident follows a prior near loss to Mrs. George B. McCrary’s Boone home, which was saved.
Mr and Mrs Sam R Schneider left Junction for Fredericksburg last week after selling their Cedar Creek ranch to Chet Porter weeks earlier. The Schenders were longtime Junction citizens, and the town expresses regret at their departure.
