Final Rites for Joe Rennell Held Sunday

Funeral services for Joe Rennell 92 retired after 50 years with Southern Pacific were held Sunday at 3 p m from the home of his step daughter Mrs Guy Munn with Walter W Leamons and Rev Olen D Welch officiating Hodges Funeral Home directed burial in Junction cemetery Rennell born June 16 1856 Plymouth England came to Texas in 1883 married Elizabeth Newman in 1809 and lived in Rosenberg 61 years Survivors include widow step daughter two step sons and several nieces and nephews in England Local and out of town relatives attended the service

Mr and Mrs R H Woody traveled to Weatherford for reburial services Sunday for Claude Ewel Cotten nephew of Mrs Woody and son of Mrs Hugh Dinwiddle a Navy veteran killed near Okinawa May 1 1945 aboard the USS Terror Survivors include his mother and two brothers all of Weatherford and a Fort Worth sister The Woody family were joined by their son Alvin and daughter Wanda and all are students at Hardin Simmons University

P T A Sets April 6 Meeting At High School Auditorium

Eagles to compete in Texas Relays in Austin

Coach Bob Short will take six boys to the Texas Relays in Austin Friday to race in four events. The Eagles will run in the mile relay, mile medley, 440 yard dash, and high hurdles, aiming to place well in the meet.

Revival Services Begin Friday at Junction Baptist Church

Rev. Jack Southerland of Central Baptist Church in San Antonio will preach the spring revival at First Baptist Church in Junction starting Friday evening April 1. Services run 10 am and 8 pm daily with Rev. David Phillips directing the song service. Phillips urges all congregants to join the choir. singers from all congregations are welcome. A county wide revival is planned and an invitation is extended to all interested in spiritual uplift for Junction and Kimble County.

Junction Boys Take Second in Kerrville Junior High Meet

Junction placed second in Kerrville Friday with seven event medals. Carl Short, coach, credited Mason with winning the meet while Troy finished third. Fredericksburg was the other school. Meador won the running contest with 38 times, Peel was third, Wartenback fourth. Ragsdale won the broad jump and placed fourth in pole vault. Murr was third in shot put. Bishop tied for fourth in high jump. Rieven Junction track men attended the meet.

No new candidates filed for places on the Junction Independent School Trustee ballot to be held in the courthouse Saturday April 2. Incumbents Aubrey Hill and H C Dutton seek re election to a one year term. two new trustees will be elected to three year terms following the board’s organization after the annexation of the common school district.

The Hill Country Bar Association met Saturday evening at Hotel Las Lomas with attorneys from 11 counties and guests. Julius Franki Austin attorney spoke on Rule 167 about discovery and production of documents for inspection, copy, and photographing. Boerne was slated as next meeting site in June. a steak dinner for about 90 followed.

Local Boys Compete In State FFA Leadership Contest

Junction chapter team competed in the State FFA leadership contest in Huntsville with Jasper winning the FFA Quiz and Victoria taking the farm demonstration. Team members were Clint Warren Ennis Winslett Ben Urban Alton Marr and Cecil Laramore. They returned via College Station after a Huntsville trip and will prepare for the invitation judging meet in Alpine, postponed to April.

Ww. S. Kidd Is Buried At Llano

Will S. Kidd, 82, father of Mrs. kK. O. Lowgren, died Friday at his Castell Community home in Llano County. Funeral services were held there Saturday, with burial in Llano cemetery. Survivors include Mrs. Kidd, Mrs. Longren, and another daughter in Fort Worth. He suffered a heart attack months earlier and had been in decline since.

Easter Sunrise Service Planned By Men's Bible Class

The second annual sunrise service sponsored by the Men's Bible Class will be held Sunday morning April 17. The program will be delivered from the foot of the cross on the mountain top with assembly in the valley west of Lover's Leap. All are invited to participate.

Oil drill at Bolt No 6 begins below 100 feet

The R F Schoolfield and Guffey Drilling Co bolt No 6 was drilled under 100 feet Sunday, 630 feet south and 330 feet east of Bolt No 1. A cable tool rig will drill to 1500 feet unless oil or gas is found sooner. Other Bear Creek sites are being staked and contracts prepared.

Bobby Joe Ragsdale Tops Edison Meet High Point

Bobby Joe Ragsdale led the Edison Invitation in San Antonio, earning high point honors and winning the low hurdles. Junction Eagles advanced to finals in the 440 relay and placed second in the mile relay with Ra'sdale, Earl Warren, Warren Guthrie, and Ted Fairchild. Fairchild was ill for the 80 yard dash. The team planned to compete next in the Brady Quadrangle meet.
