Stockard’s home in Harper Texas aged 84 He served Kerr Kimble and Gillespie counties and joined the Presbyterian Church in 1906 Survived by nine children 29 grandchildren four great grandchildren and many relatives Funeral at Harper Presbyterian Church with interment in Harper Cemetery

Goats Not in Kimble County Meat Ration Plan
Kimble County citizens face meat shortages as goat provisions are excluded from the rationing program. Lamb and mutton, veal, beef, and pork are affected, while goat meat is not yet included. Red Cross Blood Plasma Trip Planned for March 30
Plans are set for the first Blood Plasma caravan to depart Cozy Coffee Shop at 6:00 AM Tuesday March 30 for San Antonio. Kimble County residents will donate blood for the American Red Cross to aid wounded soldiers. I.a Junta Study Club sponsors the trip and others may join by contacting Mrs. E R Borden by March 26. The round trip is a one day event with several pre-donation steps required.

Meat Rationing Starts March 29 With No Sign-Ups
Meat rationing will begin nationwide on March 29. War Book No. 2 stamps will buy meat, with a basic 16 point weekly allotment for all ages during the first month. The OPA lists beef veal pork lamb and variety meats etc and notes no meat for pets.

Slaughter Permits Required Before April First
Kimble County farmers who slaughter for sale must obtain a permit by April 1. Permits issued by the county USDA war board at the local AAA office under W. E. Allen. All slaughters must be recorded and wholesale meat must bear a permit number to curb the black market. Dealers must keep full livestock purchase and sale records. farmers need not get dealer permits but should record transactions.

Rotarians Elect Officers For New Fiscal Year 1943
Rotary members chose directors for the 1943 1944 year at the March luncheon. Elected directors include Rankin Rothmann Harold Wahler L. D. Borden J. E. OPA announced tires for farm tractors and implements must be recap with a material made largely from reclaimed rubber. Replacements will not be issued for tires that are recappable. A rationing certificate is not required to have a tractor or implement recapped with the Grade F camel back.

Drouth Broken by Good Rain After Five Months
A drought lasting since October 1942 was broken by rain on Wednesday. Light rain began early, with a heavy 30 minute downpour around 11 o’clock delivering about one inch. By day’s end the government gauge showed 1.52 inches total for the storm.
