Commissioner Court Acts On Tax Assessments And Office Moves

The court met last week and through two days as a board of equalization reviewed all tax assessor Bissett’s current year assessments with few changes. Several routine orders were approved including extending the Wolf Scalp Bounty and Puppy Bounty, and monthly payments to Bob Crisp and Mrs. N L Gentry. Duties included approving quarterly reports for County Treasurer Browning and Justice Howell Wright. Oscar Pears was appointed Justice of the Peace for Precinct No 6, covering London. Office rearrangements were approved to relocate clerk and tax assessor spaces, close the north entrance, and repurpose the vaults, increasing office and vault space. The county tax rate for the year was set: County Actv 25, Road and Bridge 15, Court House and Jail 5, July 7, County Road Bond 30, Precinct No 1 Road Bond 12, Junction District No 1, School Bond 25, London Red Creek District No 4 School Bond 25.

65 Piece Ballinger Band to Visit Here

Emil A. Loeffler received a call from J. D. Motley secretary of Ballinger Chamber of Commerce about a 65 piece Ballinger band seeking a week’s vacation here. They plan to come Sunday arriving the same day for a week long stay with about 100 members. The town aims to provide camping space and entertainment making the visit memorable.

Order to Clear Obstructions on Old Junction and Kerrville Road

The Supervisor of Commissioners Precinct No 1 is ordered to remove all fences posts and wire along the old roadbed known as the Junction and Kerrville road from Schreiner Park to the Old Spanish Trail. The Clerk must mail copies to all interested parties. This follows the roadbed as it existed in 1915 with reference to 1925 and 1915 surveys and crossings of the N Llano and Main Llano rivers.

Public Installation Of O. E. S. Officers

The Order of Eastern Star held a public installation Monday evening May 31 with new officers for the year. Mrs Aliie Mae Loeffler presided as Worthy Matron escorting Mrs Lessie Baker to receive a grand salute. The event featured gifts to Mrs Baker and remarks by Rev J Virgil Davis and others, plus a laundry man’s arm injury to Hazelwood.

New Roosevelt voting precinct established by court

At a commissioners court meeting last week a new voting precinct was created for Roosevelt county. Voting will be conducted at the Roosevelt school house and the precinct extends from Copperas Precinct to the J F Ragsdale place, known as Voting Precinct No 10. A boundary change moved King Fisher Anna Dechert and Westervelt lands from Segovia to Gentry precinct at resident request.

Presbyterians Report Notable Meeting and Revival

The Presbyterian and Fellowship meeting closed last Sunday. Dr L E Selfridge returned Saturday and preached through Sunday. Rev Hutchins and Mr Selfridge led strong services with inspiring music. Mrs Barnes of San Antonio met twice with the Woman's Auxiliary to discuss work. Three persons united with the church and offerings were liberal. Marked revival and progress noted with business steps taken. Members express gratitude for fellow workers.

Charter Granted to Junction Hotel Co

A charter for Junctions new hotel enterprise was received from the Secretary of State. Temporary directors are G W Fry Coke R Stevenson J A Heyman and Emil A Loeffler. Stockholders failing to pay may reduce size though enough has been subscribed to assure success. Plans from Adams Adams San Antonio and W E Simpson Co will shape the project with bids for the West Texas Utilities office building open soon. Debbs Boone suffered a deep knee cut requiring six stitches.
