It also mentions veterans marching on Main Street and a dachshund marketed as a front-drive novelty, with aside on a multilingual marriage and looming congressional tax patience.
The Bodarc P T A held a January 20 meeting after illness caused a December miss. The program featured Song My Country Prayer Miss Alice Roberts and reports from Mrs Gully Consort. The group voted to pay for winter wood and to install better moisturizers in school rooms. The next meeting is February 17 with full attendance urged.
Pastor R Neal Greer of the Neal Baptist Church says the Associational Baptist Training Service will meet Sunday afternoon at three. Good representations from several churches are expected. All Junction B T S members urged to attend and youths from city churches invited to join. Visitors will provide the program. Mr and Mrs W H Dunk and son Wilbur Ray visited the Eagle Office. Dunk moved the figures on his freight up to 1934.
In a district field meet at Sonora last Friday night the Junction Scout troop lost 63 to 50 to the Sonora team. Denzel McDonald won the newspaper race, Warren Roberts edged the friction fire building, Jarvis Jordan took knot tying and Verlan Skaggs won the fireman's carry. Several Junction scouts placed second and third. Attendants included Overby Smith, Jarvis Jordan, Warren Roberts, Fred Ramsey, Louis Jordan and others along with accompanying Junction residents G. W. Crofoot and family Leon Powell and family Dr. J Holt Smith Mitchell Smith Frank Cowsert and Astor Wallace.
Archie Parr Ballinger Alfred Rivers Cisco and Bud Dawson plan to travel to Kimble County where they recently found a potential old mining shaft hidden in the hills. The entrance is a small opening under a large flat rock. Ore specimens from the shaft are being assayed in Austin. The exact shaft location is not disclosed.
The London football team promotes a negro minstrel at the community hall on Saturday night January 28 featuring jokes songs and a parody of the Chicken Stealing Case of Ebenezer County with scores of humorous scenes. The program aims to attract all who enjoy hearty laughs and uphold a high standard from past London shows.
Registration of automobiles is slow this year with only 297 cars registered by Tuesday, about half of last year and one third of three years ago. Next Tuesday is the last day to register without a 20 percent penalty. Taxpayers not using the split payment must pay by Tuesday night to avoid penalties. Government departments need the revenue to meet pressing needs as a 10 percent penalty and 6 percent interest take effect February 1.
The Evergreen Community Sunday School will meet next Sunday at 2 30 in the Evergreen Schoolhouse. Immediately after the Sunday school period the Rev G W Crofoot will preach. Come and bring others with you.
Judge R R King reports a State Highway Department letter stating the next Highway Commission meeting will be February 8 and 9. Kimble County is registered for February 8 and hopes the date is satisfactory for new bridge and highway work.
Supt. R. J. Bownds of London the director general of Kimble county announces a meeting of the executive committee of the Interscholastic League in Judge R. R. King's office in the courthouse Saturday afternoon January 28 at 2 30 o'clock. Plans for the league contests will be discussed and full attendance is urged. The committee includes Earl Bowers George H Mitchell W L Cooper Miss Victoria Brewer Mrs Effie Roy Felps Nixon and R J Bownds.
Crews funded by the Reconstruction Finance Corporation are cleaning sidewalks removing trees trimming branches and graveling intersections in Junction City. Two shifts with 18 to 26 men have completed work with 115 job applications since the fund was announced. program continues through January and February until exhausted.
The Junction Boy Scouts, under Rev G W Crofoot, sell tickets for the Mexican Supper and Annual Meeting of Kimble County Chamber of Commerce to be held at the court house Saturday January 28 at 7 pm. E R Borden says the scouts earn a commission and proceeds fund local scout work. Tickets cost 25 cents and a large crowd is expected.
Imogene Burt oldest daughter of Dr and Mrs J Fred Burt is improving from serious burns suffered while playing about the home a short time ago.
Fred Cole and Toby Buster announce the opening of the Texaco Service Station at Main and 8th Streets across from Standifer Hospital on Saturday January 28. To draw patrons, 25 cents in merchandise is offered for every five gallons purchased.
Mrs Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Stewart died at her son Gordon Stewarts home on January 24 1983 Her funeral was held January 25 in Junction with Rev W S Highsmith officiating She was born October 18 1858 at Fort Mason and later lived in Mason Menard Sutton Kimble counties Survivors include her daughter Mrs J C Jones and her son and several friends attended from Mason Sonora London and other places
At the regular meeting on Tuesday evening, Junction VFD elected four new members: T. M. Tomberlin Harrell Ramsey LaRue Newby and Shreves Goouwin. Earlier drills covered hydraulics salvage tools knots first aid with 20 members present.
The Kimble County Chamber of Commerce holds its annual meeting at the courthouse Saturday night with a Mexican supper at seven. Dr. Sam Thompson of Kerrville will give the main address at eight, with special music by local performers and a year in review by the president. Tickets cost 25 cents and the event welcomes all residents and former members.
The friend of Mrs. 8S. R. Schneider reports she has returned from the M. and S. Hospital in San An with health improving daily and steady progress.
M. B. Bethel is on the distribution list for 22 pounds of Ajax seed to be shipped before February end. The seed, a cross in the grain sorghum family from the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Chillicothe, will test against other feed crops in county trials. Contact M. B. Bethel at Junction High School to participate.
Mrs Ammie Williams traveled to San Antonio last Thursday after the death of her sister in law Mrs Maggie Allen who was fatally burned when her clothing caught fire from a gas stove The burial occurred in San Antonio on Friday.
