Farmers and ranchmen can order cottonseed from the Kimble County Chamber of Commerce secretary. Seed will be delivered soon in bulk lots, enabling buyers to save money and secure best quality seed via the district chamber.
The Tea Cup and Ivy 4H Clubs met at the Alva Fisher ranch to judge a class of buck lambs. They averaged about 35 pounds and expect to average 90 pounds or more. Lambs carry ten months of fleece with desirable and undesirable characteristics discussed.
B H Murphy an ex service men’s official says the American Legion sixteenth District will meet in San Angelo on March 15 and 16. He invites ex service men from Kimble County to attend and urges payment of membership dues ahead of the San Surprise Convention on March 15.
A London girls basketball team defeated Junction 20 to 1 in a tight, thrilling game here Saturday. Junction will host a return in London. Players noted: Junction Kinck Schrier Eastman Smith McKay Merchest Perry Dechart Earl Bowers. London lineup included McKin ton Goodman Miss Ruth Morriss substituting for Miss Sorshant. Mr and Mrs H Grere and son Wilbur Wright have returned to Junction. They are staying with Dr L E Stander.
Representatives from all counties attended the Hill Country Firemen's Convention in May. Chief John Hawkins presided at 3 30 PM in the Methodist Church education building. San Angelo's Chief Parker donated a gavel to symbolize authority, with it reverting to San Angelo if the association ceases to function. Officers elected by acclamation for the coming year include Hawkins, Thaxton, Wehle, Holliday, and Coker. Brady will host the next meeting on the second Tuesday in May with a morning business session, afternoon demonstrations, and an evening banquet.
Messrs. E. R. Borden and L. D. Borden of the Borden Ice Company and Allay Sweet Cream Ice Company have attended the fourth annual dairy manufacturing short course at A. and M. College in College Station. Leaders in the dairying industry discuss the final day with focus on ice cream manufacturing.
Reverend Milton F Hill, recently ill in San Antonio, is improving and will preach Sunday. He has been visiting his parents in San Antonio where a physician has been caring for him.
County Juvenile Court Judge J B Rand olph sentenced Stroud Keith 14 and Marvin Puett 15 to one year in the State Reformatory School at Gatesville after they pled guilty to auto thefts in Dallas and Junction and a rifle theft near Fredericksburg. Keith and Puett were to be paroled after six months if well behaved. Sheriff Patterson escorted them to Gatesville.
The regular session of the District Court will convene in Junction on February 24, 1930, for two weeks with Judge Joe G. Montague of Fort Stockton presiding. Ed. Yarborough of McCamey is District Attorney and U D Kindrick is District Clerk. A heavy docket awaits with more than seventy five civil suits already filed and about fourteen criminal cases planned.
County Agent R E Homann received from nurseries three dozen fruit trees of various kinds and varieties. The trees were donated to the Tea Cup Ivy and London Clubs and have been set out. Club members learned orchard layout soil preparation pruning and care. The project aims to prove adaptability and serve as a long term demonstration. Two clubs plan to expand gardening work alongside orcharding practices.
The San Angelo District of the Methodist Epworth League met last Sunday with District Secretary Ramsey Randolph of Junction presiding. The district was divided into three zones and bids from San Angelo and Midland were considered before awarding the convention to Junction in May.
A letter from Mrs. Frank Wilson reports Mr. Wilson continues to improve and expects to be home before many days. Mrs. Eddie Browing is reported doing well in Baylor Hospital.
The Women's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church hosts the district Zone three meeting in Junction on Friday. Members from Sonora Eldorado Menard and other towns will attend a program from 10 am to 4 pm with lunch served and a Glee Club performance. Friday night at 7:30 pm local merchants plan to form a Retail Merchants Association to foster credit protection cooperation and better business practices. The group will coordinate with state associations and address bad checks. A large turnout is expected.
The Junction high school basketball teams beat Long Mountain on Monday afternoon. Girls score 24 to 18 with starters Tempie Boone captain, Vivian James, Ruth Sandherr, Marie Warren, Lorena Coney, Marjorie Montgomery, and Doris Johnson. Boys win 31 to 9 with starters Dunbar, James, Cochran, Hendricks, Witt, Mogford, Gilbreath, Martin, Lumpkin, Allen.
The Junction girls team will play Brady High School on Friday at 4 30 pm on the local court and face Fredericksburg on Saturday at 10 30 am. Last week Fredericksburg lost 15 14 in Junction, and the visitors seek revenge. Admission is twenty five cents.
A dry period continues with a need for rainfall to revive grass and weeds. Stockmen continue feeding livestock while hopeful for improved range conditions after a rain. Mr and Mrs B L Smith and sons drove to Rocksprings on Wednesday.
The Children’s Little Theater of the Hardeman School of Speech Arts opens its season with Alice C D Riley’s one act Ten Minutes by the Clock at the Texan Theater Friday evening. The play, set in a spring morning breakfast room, features Mae Delle Lowry Milton Blackburn and other local performers with music by Mrs. Guy E Wynne.
Mr Homer Livingston was transported this morning by Schreiner Hodges ambulance to San Antonio for treatment. He traveled with Mrs Livingston, Dr D S Stone, Clay Secrest, Pierce Hoggett and Miss Aileen Livingston in attendance.
Mrs T B Phillips and her daughter Miss Mary were visitors in Sonora on Sunday.
Lions Club district meeting in Junction at the Baptist Church drew 55 attendees from out of town and local clubs. Delegates voted unanimously to hold the next district meeting in San Saba on April 29, with programs featuring Mrs A W Loeffler, Mrs M F Hill, E M Porterfield, and Miss Paltalee Snn. Local leaders like C L South and J C Murff presided, while Goldthwaite’s C W Webb and district officials offered talks on Lionism and district governance.
Robert Motley, a Dallas music student known as Buzz, will broadcast a piano recital on WRR in Dallas this evening from 7 to 8 o clock. The program is expected to draw many listeners in Junction and nearby areas.
