Kimble County War Rationing Board reports 335 families received 13 512 pounds of canning sugar in July averaging 40 pounds per family. July marks canning and preserving with sugar issued helping winter prep and wartime needs. Grade I tires certificates issued for 124 passenger cars and trucks, though actual purchases unlikely due to limited tires and gas. War impact grows clearer for residents as travel and supply tighten.

Missionary Dr Buford Nichols to Speak at Junction Church
Dr Buford L Nichols a missionary who spent five years in China will speak at Junction Methodist Church Thursday evening at 845 oclock. The meeting is sponsored by local pastors from four denominations to hear him before he returns to China in September. Top Bilies Auction Brings Strong Prices at Hill Country Sale
The Seventh Annual Hill Country Billy Sale at the Hill Country Fair Grounds produced solid prices with no records. Top bid of 185 dollars went to J A Lockwell of Eden for a billy from C A Pepper. Total of 10 top billies averaged 143.50 dollars, while Pepper led with five billies averaging 141. The event also featured a registered nanny sale and charity fundraisers by local clubs.

The Ranch District Concho Valley Council held a camporee and water carnival with Arrow Patrol Troop 20 Junction winning a class A ribbon. Bribbons were earned by Arrow Patrol Troop 18 Eldorado and several patrols from Junction and London. Junior and senior water carnival winners, officials, and hosts are listed with Barbecue led by C. T. Holekamp and food by H. D. Lackey. Joe Galbraith of Del Rio and visitors Harold Brown and Mrs. Ralph C. Faver noted.

Summer Of 1936 Sets Heat Records In Many Towns
The country reports extreme heat with many areas claiming record highs. Kimble County notes 110 degrees on August 11 1936 and temperatures above 100 until August 26 except for three cooling days. Rainfall in September totaled 10.43 inches after a hot July 21 start. Captain George W. Crofoot, former Junction pastor now an Army chaplain in England, preached at London Cathedral on July 4 for King George and British American troops.

Death of renowned Kimble County ranchman R H Spiller
R H Spiller born in McCulloch County October 12, 1867 died in a San Angelo hospital after months of heart trouble. Funeral services were held at the Menard Presbyterian Church with interment in Menard. Survivors include wife Mary Frances Carter two sons Hugh and Roy three daughters and numerous grandchildren. Spiller began ranching as a youth and built a lifelong career in Texas ranching. Continued on page four.
