Court House lawn gathering called by Judge Randolph for Saturday August 7 at 2 p m. to finalize fair plans. All committee members urged to attend to ensure coordinated work and support for successful fair.
J C Graham and a northwest county family visited town describing a new one room San Jose School building for about 20 pupils. Miss Mattie Wright is likely the teacher for the coming term. The school lies about five miles from both Menard County and Sutton County lines and recently received a fresh white coat of paint. Visitors to the Fleming home include Mrs W B Keith and daughter Tahoma La Rue of Fort Worth, Mrs Maude Mayes of Brady, and Mr A D Brown of Mason.
Barney Williams becomes sole owner of the Bartley and Williams Cafe and renames it the Highway Cafe. He plans remodeling in the Alex J. Hamer building to convert east half for the cafe and move Hamer Co stock, create a shoe room, and rearrange clothing and stock for improved appearance and convenience. A J McKean, Prairie Lea rancher and legislator, notes dryness in his county and limited farm values. Oil made from grasshoppers is used as airplane lubricant.
W Z Miller former Superintendent requests paper be changed to Bangs and notes that Schreiner High School receives an extra Physics credit. Chief Supervisor A W Evans says credit granted for superior test questions and grading policy, with call for more lab work. Miller says graduates can enter Texas colleges without Physics exam and praises last year’s physics class.
The Commissioners Court arranged a trade for a Monarch seven ton caterpillar tractor and a 10 foot Adams grader. The new equipment cost about 7000 dollars, while old gear was sold for around 2000 dollars, cutting cash outlay. The old tractors and grader were costly to operate and maintain. The machinery arrived Wednesday and Commissioner Fidges tested it yesterday.
Heyman Drug Store enhances its storefront with concrete and stucco front, modern plate glass windows, and a Frigidaire Fountain. J. D. Braley remodeled the front to match adjoining Bissett Chase and Bartley Buildings. A new cigar case replaces the old one as the shop expands its well stocked merchandise in a town smaller than Junction.
S. S. Bundy, rancher from Watson Divide, was in Junction last week returning from the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Convention at Brady where he served as Supt. of Sheep Sales. A Rambouillet ram sold for 900 dollars, raised by Pendleton of Parowan Utah and bought by Ed Downie of Sanderson. Total sales at the convention topped more than 20,000 dollars.
By week’s end most fixtures and equipment of City Meat Market will be moved to a newly completed building east of Heyman’s Drug Store. Service continues with only brief interruptions. A Lipman Refrigerating Plant, equal to a two ton ice plant, will soon be in operation, cooling storage and the front counter. The market is described as attractive, spic and span inside, with Mr. Bissett's market regarded as one of the most modern in towns of its size.
Rev J J Ray missionary evangelist of the Christian Church for this district will conduct a ten day meeting at the Methodist church in Junction beginning Thursday August 13. Everyone is invited to attend all services.
