The Republican county committee schedules a closing campaign event in Beadle at the auditorium next Monday night. Governor Crawford will appear to summarize for the party and address the jury of the people with music provided, and neighbors are urged to attend.
A South Dakota labor letter attacks lieutenant governor candidate William T La Follette as an enemy of organized labor. It urges union members to scratch his name and vote for another Democratic ticket option, calling for immediate action before the upcoming election.
Benson Bidwell and his son Charles, both jailed in Chicago after being found guilty of a large scale swindle tied to an alleged cold motor. Judge Chetlain sentenced them to one to ten years in the penitentiary though they sought more time to appeal. The elder Bidwell claimed innocence and referenced past inventions, while a Sioux Falls group signed off on a partisan note attached to the motion.
Chicago reports that by December 1 a new uniform freight contract regime will take effect on almost all U S railroads. Freight shipments will adhere to fixed provisions governing carrier liability for loss or damage and the rates used for transport. Eastern lines begin November 1 and Western lines adopt December 1 after a Railway Exchange meeting.

Five Filipino laborers and their superintendent were killed in a Moro attack at the Shepherd sugar plantation near Iligan Mindanao. The Moros struck suddenly and the laborers suffered heavy losses before they rallied and repelled the attackers. Plantation buildings were set on fire as the Moros retreated.
Winnipeg report says Harry Martin of Martin Bros. sheep ranchers in Maple Creek district Sask died from exposure after losing his way during a recent snowstorm while tending sheep fifteen miles from town. Thousands of sheep perished north of Maple Creek, with about 2 500 reported. The storm drove animals into a lake.
The Roosevelt poll gives Taft 306 electoral votes with two to three doubtful states. Success Magazine shows Taft at 298. The New York World Bryan paper places Taft at 206 and Bryan at 178 with several unclear states. The piece argues Bryan’s appeal fades and backs Taft as the safer, proven choice.
Mrs. Pankhurst Miss Pankhurst and Mrs. Drummond faced one year of good behavior bonds or three months to jail for inciting to disorder and urging people to rush the house of commons. The court refused witness testimony and Miss Pankhurst spoke in defense before imprisonment.
