A telegraph report from Ovando Montana states Deputy Warden B Peyton and four Flathead Indians died after an armed clash near Helland’s Prairie on Swan River. An elderly man named Petey Lundgren died near Spearfish after tying a rope to his wrist to lead a cow home. The cow balked, causing the man to be toppled and dragged, with the animal treading on him. He died two hours later from internal hemorrhage.
