South Park policeman dies trying to save man hit by train
In Chicago at East One Hundred and Third street and Cottage Grove avenue, South Park policeman Patrick J. Conway, 37, died after leaping toward a passerby, John Snekutis, 25, a Steger, Illinois butcher, who walked into the path of a northbound Illinois Central passenger train. Witnesses and police report the pair had just exited a Cottage Grove avenue street car and attempted to cross the steam road tracks. The policeman shouted a warning. Conway tried to push Snekutis away but both were fatally struck. Their bodies were taken to Bidle's undertaking rooms on Cottage Grove avenue.
