Do Good Foods abandons Selma plan after bankruptcy

Do Good Foods announced a Selma plant to turn surplus groceries into chicken feed with about 100 workers and $60,000 average pay. The project never started as cash flow and investment issues sank the effort. KDC Agribusiness filed for bankruptcy and later liquidation amid a $300 million trade secret lawsuit, leaving the Eastfield site vacant. The building has been relisted, with hopes for a new company later this summer.

Fare Game arcade and pizzeria opens in downtown

Paul Auclair C J Batista and Jason Turner launch Fare Game in downtown at 218 E Main St. Lynn Auclair says the venture blends bar arcade and pizza with at least 20 arcade games including pinball and classic titles. Opening March 20, menu centers on pizza.

Groundbreaking for Four Oaks JCC Training Center

On March 12 community leaders and officials gathered on Boyette Road to break ground on the 35 million Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at Johnston Community College. Reid Williams of the I-95 1-40 Crossroads alliance called the event a product of two and a half years of collaboration. Attendees included JCC leaders Johnston County commissioners state lawmakers and Four Oaks town leaders who say the project will spur quality sustainable job growth in advanced manufacturing.

Gun curbs go too far group says

SELMA NC gun rights group Grass Roots North Carolina says Selma’s ban on weapons in public parks oversteps state law. Attorney Ed Green argues state statute preempts local regulation of firearms except where allowed, noting the broader use of recreational facilities and excluding greenways and paths. The council met on March 12 to discuss the city ordinance.
