Shelter plan eyed for cold nights in Selma
Shelter leader Regina Rodgers and Police Chief expressed concerns about violence from homeless guests but noted de escalation training and close cooperation with police. The ministry has built rapport over five years and would operate only when temperatures drop to 35 or below with rain or 38 with wind chill, about 73 nights in Selma. Council member Susan Watson voiced fear despite the plan’s intent to provide a night lay down and meals rather than attract trouble.
