Board keeps protections in policy amid federal funding concerns

A Pine Level resident received a strange call from someone posing as a town police officer using the department number. The caller knew a post office box and left a random number but asked for no money or information. Smithfield to host trash trap in Spring Branch Neuse effort

Smithfield will join a regional push to keep litter from entering the Neuse River by placing a trash trap in Spring Branch. The device floats with water levels and can handle up to 5,000 cubic feet per second, collecting about 1,000 pounds of mostly plastic trash annually.
