Tobacco Farm Life Museum reopens in Kenly North Carolina
The Tobacco Farm Life Museum now part of North Carolina Division of History Museums reopens with a 10 am Saturday July 5 grand event and free preview July 13. New exhibits updated facilities and programs highlight NC farm history through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Admission is free and regular hours run Tuesday through Saturday.

Two Children Burned In Johnston County House Fire
Two foster children under five years old were severely burned in a house fire on Stricklands Crossroads Road. Charity Snead said she rescued her 2-year-old son before deputies arrived. two other children were pulled from the home by responders. The injured were taken to UNC Health Johnston and then to UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill. Fire officials continue the investigation.

Johnston County hires David Pearce as superintendent
Smithfield Johnston County School Board approved a four year contract for David Pearce with a base salary of 235000 plus perks. The package includes up to 20000 a year in performance pay, up to 4 percent annual raises on positive evaluations, extensive benefits, retirement contributions, and severance of two years salary if terminated without cause. Pearce must live in the county and stay full time, with limited outside work allowed and a contract through June 30 2029 that can be extended by mutual agreement.
