Man held in Clayton shootings

Police arrest Amory Gregory Grant 33 of Raleigh in the July 23 shooting at a Pond Street home injuring Andrea Bailey 28 and a 14-year-old boy. He faces two counts of assault with intent to kill inflicting serious injury plus burglary firearm possession by a felon and firing into an occupied dwelling. Both victims were taken to WakeMed. the teen remains serious.

DOT Funds Widen Clayton Intersection for Smoother Traffic

The N C Department of Transportation awards a 3.7 million contract to S T Wooten Corp of Wilson to widen the Clayton intersection at Shotwell Road and U S 70 Business. Plans include a second left turn lane eastbound, a second left turn lane on Shotwell Road, a dedicated right turn lane, signal poles, concrete medians and sidewalks, drainage, curbs and gutters. Construction starts this fall with lane restrictions from 6 a m to 8 30 p m and should finish by end of 2025.
