The Transportation Committee led by Lieut. Leggett requests all owners with cars who plan to participate in the Red Cross parade to assemble with their machines on Meigs avenue south of Court by 1 30 preparatory to starting.
John Heid appeared in police court for failure to provide for his children and agreed to pay his wife a ball he earned as a truck driver at the Government Depot. Edward James was fined one dollar and costs for assault and battery on his wife. Henry Jefferson, of Ninth and Indiana avenue, to be tried next Tuesday for nonpayment support. Wm Bailey, colored, fined one dollar and costs for carrying a concealed weapon and jailed if unable to pay.
The Sellersburg High School annual Commencement exercises unfold Friday evening at the Methodist church. Rev Arthur Haley Keeney of the First Presbyterian church will give the principal address on The Greatest God. Keeney, active in youth work, also led talks for French Lick High School and Louisville ministers. He heads Young Peoples work in Indiana Synod and in the New Albany Presbytery. The nearby town plans to attend with the district school orchestra accompanying.
Dr. Harry F Barnard federal food administrator for Indiana ordered the closing of Froseschke Broshear grocers of Martinsville for a week after they admitted selling 0 pounds of sugar at 10 cents a pound in a single order for private consumption. The case cites the food regulation limiting consumers to 3 pounds per person per month and prohibits unusual quantities.
Jefferson Tabor and Tell Lodges of Odd Fellows plan memorial services Sunday evening at Wall-street M E church. Members and visiting Odd Fellows meet at 7 Welock to march to the church. Service at 7 30 will feature an address by Dr A A Spears Grand Master of Brazil and special music.
Clark County Exemption Board lists 103 men for departure on May 25 under call 377. Names include John MccCulloch, Walter Hinton, Estel Stephens, Charles Cummings, David Peyton, Wilbur Wayler, Ernest Kirk, Chester Cravens, Raymond Hutchinegs, Edward O’Brien, Harry Gaither, Lee Stoner, and many others.

Mrs. Laura Bradley Moring of Fort Wayne is appointed Indiana Editor for the Federation Magazine by Mrs. John E. Moore president of the Indiana Federation of Clubs. She will begin duties June 1 and is a University of Indiana alumna with active ties to Fort Wayne clubs and women's organizations.
A continuance in Clark Circuit Court Friday delays Norris Myers claim against the estate of John William Myers, a Utica merchant who died in a January gasoline stove explosion. Two other suits were filed: Kentucky Grocery Co for 41.70, Wm P Ford for 65.50, and William J Leach and Mary L Leach sue Marie Leach et al over East Ninth Street property valued around 650.
Members of Jeffersonville Aerie No. 1527 F C E are asked to gather at the hall Sunday at 1 o clock for Union Memorial services. The notice bears the seal and signatures of officers including Charles Adolph W P and adjutant W Seedv.
A Red Cross parade linked to the latest war fund drive is planned with the lodge procession joining a memorial service. Hundreds from the Government Depot will march, including motor vehicles, laborers, guards, wagon companies, and women from several departments. The parade follows the same march as fraternities. Four minute men will extend the campaign countywide next week with church assignments and nightly talks at the Dream Theater.
The 1919 Indiana Churches of Christ convention in Indianapolis announced a proposed merger with the Congregational Church. Huntington withdrew its bid when Indianapolis was chosen, and planners envision a large union meeting in Tomlinson Hall as a step toward consolidation.
At the convention a canvass of Indiana churches showed progress toward the $250000 goal for the Men and Millions Fund backing Disciples of Christ programs. With reports from just over half the congregations, the total stood at 214999.30 dollars and state Secretary Cauble added 70 cents to reach 215000.
Information from Ottawa reports Simeon Reed a Canadian regiment member and brother in law of Frank J. Bartle gassed by Germans and later reported dead. He has been discharged from the hospital where confined and remains under medical treatment. Upon improvement he may take a furlough home to Monroe township.

The depot awaits the return of Col. Robert B. Powers, with plans for major improvements. Proposed additions include a first class hospital, an electric light plant, a new fire department building, and a pumping station to supply the depot with water from its own wells. A new combination chemical and hose wagon has been added to bolster fire protection.
Information reaches from Dan Rau former Louisville drummer for Rau Brothers glass works in Indianapolis. Born in Louisville he died of stomach trouble at 58 funeral held in Louisville this afternoon at 3 30. He was in frail health since his wife’s death 18 months ago.
Fort Wayne Indiana May 17 An attempted burglary at the Eban jewelry store in the business district was foiled when manager J Wehrmeyer found a hole cut through the ceiling from an upstairs room. Burglar tools were found but no suspects. The lock was left open and $1,000 in cash plus many diamonds were untouched. Police believe the burglars escaped as the manager entered.
Caldwell-Marshall Company of Columbus Indiana has been hiring hundreds for two warehouses 200 by 800 feet as an extension to the Depot. About 1200 workers were once employed, now around 600 remain. Each building costs 500000 dollars. Col Powers, Capt Wheatley and Walter A Dorsey returned from Washington today with consort for their requests.
A 17 year old girl in Hazleton fought a bulldog that suddenly attacked her in a bedroom. Her right arm was badly mangled and her clothing ripped before help arrived. The dog escaped and its owner could not be located.
The Drum and Trumpet Corps of Ga 9 Uniform Rank Knights of Pythias will hold a benefit dance at the Armory next Thursday May 23. Proceeds go to purchase needed equipment and the social event features well known members of the corps.

Elwood Indiana May 17 senior class pupils in overalls and farm attire and girls in long aprons were barred from the high school building on senior day. Superintendent Ronald refused admission until they changed. Instead pupils drove to a grove where parents provided a picnic lunch. Officials plan not yet announced.
Austin Texas the ten mile prohibition zone law raises whether mileage is measured air line or ground route. The attorney general’s department weighs if limits by ground routes reduce zone area. Aviator landing fields are included but non government leased fields remain under debate.

George Parker a colored convict arrived at the Indiana Reformatory to serve from one to eight years after a Tippecanoe county petit larceny conviction.
William Dolan has resumed duty after resigning late last week. One vacancy remains in the police department.
A warrant for 697.97 dollars in favor of Oz McMurtrie Treasurer of State was drawn today in County Auditor George W. Stoner's office for the upkeep of inmates from Clark County in state institutions.
A meeting was held in Charlestown last night to prep for the Red Cross drive. Organizers planned territory division to ensure full township coverage. A rally at the Methodist church is set for Sunday afternoon.
Invitations will be distributed Sunday at St Luke's Reformed church for the poverty social of the Christian Endeavor Society to be held in the basement next Wednesday evening. Poverty will be exemplified and fines will be assessed for any evidence of ordinary dress.

John Olver formerly of Utica died last night at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg of senility at age 79. He had resided at the home seven or eight years. The body will be taken to Utica for interment this afternoon. He leaves a daughter Mrs Carl Miller and a son James Oliver of Indianapolis.
Jeffersonville township schools closed today and a celebratory picnic was held at McCulloch consolidated school. Last winter heavy snow prevented sessions and several Saturdays were used to make up time this spring.
A large gathering is planned at Borden on Saturday night to launch the Red Cross war fund drive. Likely speakers include H. Willard Phipps and Lieut. Cincinnatus Blake of the city. A similar meeting at New Washington was canceled due to a chicken pox outbreak.

Albert Yost convicted of shooting at jitney bus operator William Holzemer. He received a two to fourteen year sentence in the Indiana Reformatory in Anderson court. After firing, Yost allegedly drove away in the automobile.
