The Food Administration explains the need to cut fats, noting dairy products remain the chief source and US production cannot increase. Last year, three times as much butter and ten times as much condensed milk were sent to Allies, while their supply declines demand more butter condensed milk and lard this year.
Indiana has raised 587 of its 10847 man goal for the shipbuilding army as cities report turnout. Indianapolis lists 4175 volunteers while Crown Point 753 Evansville 695 Elkhart 550 and South Bend 300 show uneven progress. State director N F Squibb credits press publicity and public service reserve cooperation for mobilization toward the week’s finish.
Miss Gladys Rhodes Buckner and Lieut Henry Brainard Nelson wed in a formal ceremony at 208 West Front street. The couple, both Wisconsin natives, include a mother of the groom and a brother from McCormick Seminary among guests at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville.

Stansbury outlines Indiana statute provisions allowing killing dogs found harming or roaming near sheep. He cites sections 3257 3265 3271 and 3256 of the 1914 Revised Statutes, stressing owners may be liable for damages and urging farmers to enforce existing rights to protect the wool and mutton industry.
The committee asserts it is the duty of sheriffs deputies marshals constables and policemen to enforce the law by killing stray unattended dogs roaming the county due to the menace they pose to the state sheep industry. It asks county councils to publicize the opinion widely.
The attorney general urges county clerks to appoint two qualified voters from the leading parties as a county board of registration commissioners. The board would register voters without chief or deputy clerks unless needed, with party chairmen suggesting names. The plan aims to save public funds and is within law.
Mrs Katherine Resch a German native who long resided in Ohio Falls died suddenly of a heart attack after supper at her home 1400 Woerner avenue. She was 79 born March 23 1838 and survived by four children William John Elizabeth Carrie Costello. Funeral plans not yet set.
Attorney General dated February 2, 1918 urges Council and officers to enforce laws protecting sheep from dog ravages. Citizens are urged to assist in this duty to support farmers and stock raisers in sheep production by ridding the state of sheep killing dogs.
Commissioner Pauli of the Public Service Commission heard United Gas and Electric Company’s petition to raise bonds by to take over floating indebtedness for Jeffersonville and New Albany. City attorneys Pax and Jewett object, citing existing bond value concerns and inter financed corporations. A March 1 hearing date was set for oral arguments on the local phase.
Mr Fox said the commission recently reviewed the S34 meter charge the company imposed for electric connections. The commission ruled the practice must stop and the company promised refunds for payments made under it.
The Louisville and Southern Indiana Traction Co must restore the Spring Hill car on city lines while a petition is heard. An axle broke and no other car is available delaying service. The company argues the run is unprofitable and says patrons could use the interurban ferry, drawing objections from Spring Hill residents.
Elmo Cauble of Henryville announces as a Republican candidate for Clark County Treasurer. The Henryville businessman, long active in the flour mill trade, narrowly lost two years ago by 31 votes and is viewed as a strong, unopposed primary contender with broad party support.
Last night a powerful wind swept the area reaching 57 miles an hour at times, recalling last spring’s cycle of damage west of Jeffersonville and New Albany. Despite the intensity, damage was mostly minor with broken fences, shed and silo damage, and blown-down fences, though telephone poles and wires fell in the county. Fear spread among residents as the gale raged and threatened home foundations.
County farmers face seed corn shortages as field tests reveal low germination. Many rely on sand box testers and rag dolls to gauge sowing quality. The plan urges each farmer to test crib run grain, select mature ears, and discard ears with mushy kernels before planting.
Omer L. Miller of Indianapolis, former local grocer, foiled a handkerchief masked gunman during a Saturday night robbery. Miller knocked the thief, secured the gun, and held him until police arrived, saving about $17 in cash plus register funds. The suspect, Wallace Davidson, 28, of Indianapolis, claimed to be an insurance collector.

The Rev. D. A. Winter, new pastor of St. Luke's Reformed Church, announced he will move from Louisville to Jeffersonville and reside at 329 Walnut Street. The second of the special Wednesday Lenten services will be held tomorrow night at 8 o'clock conducted by Rev. Winter.
