Bulldogs Host New Boston In Season Opener Friday Night

Jefferson Bulldogs prepare for a season debut in their new stadium at 8 p.m. facing New Boston Lions. The rebuild features 5 seniors, 7 juniors, 11 sophomores under coach Max Wade with hopes high after a scrimmage showing 168 rushing yards to 99 for New Diana and two Bulldog interceptions.

Broom and Mop Sale Benefit Planned by Lions Club

Verumen, chair, urges Jefferson Lions Club members and residents to buy mops and brooms Thursday evening at 6 00 to 6 30 PM at Piggly Wiggly Parking Lot to fund pool operation and hospital room furnishing. If rain delays, sale shifts to Monday September 15. Prices include $1 50 for warehouse mops and $1 00 for regular rayon mops. warehouse brooms are $2 50 and Princess and Little Jewel brooms at $2 each.

Jefferson PTA to Honor Teachers in September Meeting

The Jefferson Parent Teacher Association invites all parents and guests to the first monthly meeting and reception honoring new teachers. The event is Monday evening September 15 at 7:30 at the high school auditorium with a film Just One More and student entertainment. Babysitters will be available in the high school gym. refreshments follow in the cafeteria.

School District Enrollment Shows Increase in Jefferson IDS

Jefferson Independent School District reports 1 899 total students after week one, a rise of 12 from last year’s 1 887. Superintendent H L Shoffner notes continued growth possible for six weeks as enrollments stabilize across nine schools and special education.

Over 1000 Attend New Hospital Opening Sunday

More than 500 Marion County residents joined the dedication of the $575 000 Marion County Hospital on Highway 59 North despite a brief shower. The ceremony included a hospital nursery dedication a memorial to Molly DeWare and remarks by R L English and other officials.

Funeral rites held for Mrs Olive Hinton in Jefferson

Mrs Olive Hinton 94 died September 6 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home Jefferson after 45 years in the city. Funeral Monday at Hag gard Chapel with Rev Bill Beckham and Rev Homer Freeman officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters six grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.

H L Shoffner announces three new teachers for Jefferson ISD. Leon Stricklen, SFA graduate, will teach third grade at Jefferson Elementary. Anita Crank joins Jefferson Elementary English classes. Catherine Snelgrove, SHSTTC alumna, will teach girls physical education at Jefferson Junior High and Jefferson High, wife of Ricky Snelgrove in Vocational Agriculture.

County Hay Show to Feature Cattle Nutrition Talk

The Marion County Hay Show will be held Tuesday September 16 at 7 30 p m at the American Legion Building. Dr Robert Hillier cattle nutritionist for the Ralston Purina Co will discuss Cattle Feeding on Short Supply of Hay.
