In Marion County July 1969 sales of United States Savings Bonds and Freedom Shares totaled 5421 with January through July at 40672 68 percent of the 1969 goal of 60000 Chairman Halbert McQuinn notes accrued interest must be declared on federal returns and a proposed 5 percent rate on E and H bonds retroactive to June 1 1969 may apply to all outstanding bonds He emphasizes bonds are designed for emergencies planned purchases education and retirement and their tax advantages aid inflation control nationwide investments lagged 3 percent below last year for seven months but July set a 13 year monthly record at 419 million Texas seven month sales were 104 261 845 a 2 4 percent drop from 1968 with July at 15 058 788 versus 15 862 130 the prior year

Woman earns education master's at North Texas State
Miss Juanita Kay Connor of Jefferson was among 1243 graduates from 37 states at NTSU Summer Commencement on August 22. President Kamerick conferred 728 bachelor’s, 469 master’s, and 46 doctorates, including the first two Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Connor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Connor, received the Master’s Degree in Education.

Jefferson School Superintendent H L Shoffner announces cafeteria meal prices. Elementary students in grades one through six pay 35 cents, grades seven through twelve 45 cents, adults and visitors 50 cents, milk 5 cents extra for each half pint and 10 cents for adults. Rising food costs prompted the increase.
