Lena Goetzman Dies in Texas Burial Friday
Lena Goetzman died June 22 in Longview at age 96. She was a Jefferson native born July 24, 1879, daughter of John C. and Mary Elizabeth Goetzman. Funeral services were held June 21 at Haggard Chapel with Rev. Pather L. L Meyer. burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Survivors include nephew Rudolph Goetzman of Longview and two nieces in California and Dallas, plus a sister-in-law of Jefferson.

The Prospect Home Demonstration Club met Thursday afternoon in Mrs. A B Hall's home. Two demonstrations by 4-H club girls Wherrie Grubbs and Gwendolyn Hunt featured minute fudge and a peach cottage cheese salad by Shillie Jean Grubbs and Nancy Baugh. President Hall led the business session with five members present. Ice cold watermelons were served after adjournment to attendees including Lorene Carwile, Rena M, Phail Faey, Standley and Matt Grubbs.

Jackson Community Center Meet Seeks Playground Fund
The newly organized Jackson Community Center met Friday with about 10 attendees. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Morris and Miss Sue Cagle with Miss Cagle’s 4-H girls. Officers elected: Mrs. Leroy Ledbetter program chairman Omar Scott recreation leader chairman Mrs. Henry Ones vocational leader for children Milton Watts recreational leader for children 7 and older. A playground equipment fund was started and the group voted to meet two Saturdays monthly. Next meeting July 9. A program of entertainment and games for all ages was planned with cookies and cream to be served.

District Court Proceedings For May June Term
The Grand Jury sat from May 20, handling 26 investigations, 22 witness questions, and 22 indictments. Prohibited sentences on two men for child desertion were revoked and they were committed to the state penitentiary. A forgery case with probated sentence had its probate revoked. Four men convicted of prey and theft of chickens received prison terms. Two others received jail terms and fines for a second offense of driving while intoxicated. On the civil docket 11 divorces were granted and 9 civil numbers heard. Several other numbers were dismissed at the request of Ba.

Supper Event To Honor Baptist Pastor

Prospect Pupils Have Good Record
Primary pupils at Prospect School posted a 1994 55 attendance rate of 96.86 percent. First grade led with 99.959 percent while second grade recorded 96.521 and third grade 97 percent rough. Guardsmen Return Home After Summer Camp
The 49th Armored Division of the National Guard breaks up camp at North Fort Hood this weekend and pulls out for home. Sixteen Jefferson men return from the eighth annual summer camp after two weeks of weapons training, small unit tactics, and field bivouac. Gerald Corpier was named Recruit of the Year for the 647th Armored Field Artillery Battalion for excellence on the firing line and at recruit school. Mrs Geo H Call president of the 1933 Study Club affiliated with the Texas Federation joins 11,000,000 members in a chain tele phone drive to urge Fourth of July travelers to drive with care and courtesy to reduce highway deaths.
