Jefferson Lions Club brings Rubinoff and His Violin to the High School Auditorium on March 4 at 8 15 pm. Halbert Mac Quinn says the event should be a standout of the season. The artist will perform with the Stradivarius insured for 104000 and play Warsaw Concerto Chopin Poem Clair de Lune and Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue with new violin solos. New Pastor For Methodist Will Arrive March

The Rev. Robert Graves Jr of San Augustine Texas will arrive March 1 to become pastor of the First Methodist Church here replacing the Rev Nielsen who moves to Hughes Springs. Graves his wife and one child will reside in the parsonage. Church members welcome the Graves family and regret losing the Nielsens.

F M Skinner president of the Marshall Broadcasting Company announced the sale of Radio Station KMHT to E W Mahone Jr and Howard A Bridge subject to FCC transfer approval. KMHT on 1450 KC with 250 watts began in 1947 and studio moves to the Marshall National Bank Building aim to keep Basin Station KMHT progressing with Virgil Stone remaining as manager and staff.

Legion Members to Meet at City Hall for Three Weeks

The American Legion will hold its regular weekly meetings in City Hall for the next three weeks because the Legion building is rented. A zone meeting is set for Thursday night March 4 at Big Pine Lodge on Caddo Lake with the Marshall and Waskom Post in attendance. All local members are urged to attend.

Texas Pacific Tests Flag Service in Jefferson

Texas and Pacific Railroad launches a 90 day flag stop trial in Jefferson to allow boarding and alighting for the fast Eagle and Northbound passenger trains. Previous schedules required Marshall stops. the change lets riders reach Dallas Austin San Antonio and Houston, with same day round trips possible. Patrons are urged to use the service to prove demand.

John T. Carter Passes After Long Illness

John Thomas Carter died after a lengthy illness at his Jefferson home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Haggard Chapel with Rev. Edwin Johnson and Rev. C. B. White officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Edna Carter two sons Robert and Herbert five daughters Betty Phillips Evelyn Howell Linda and Pat Carter five sisters and three brothers with numerous grandchildren. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named from local church members and physicians.

1955 License Plate Sales Slow At County Office

The 1955 motor vehicle license plates went on sale February 1 at the County Tax Office. Through February 21 only 75 sets had been sold. Tax Collector Perry C. Holland urges early registration to avoid a last minute rush. Texas law limits registrations to the owner’s home county and farmers must sign an affidavit confirming farm use only.

The Bethel Baptist Church Junior Class hosted a social at the church on Saturday evening. Participants included teacher Mrs J L Musgrove with Mrs Eula Carter and class members plus guests such as Paul Moore Bennie Pierce Linda Gale Walker Reggie Hasty Terry Hasty Iva Lee Bubba Belcher Mary Taylor. Games and dodge ball provided entertainment along with refreshments.

Blue Bird News at Museum Visit and Meeting

The Merry Blue Birds visited the museum last Wednesday afternoon and were guided by Mrs. B. Koontz with help from leaders Mrs. Bob Pierce and Mrs. Bill Shaw. The Happy Blue Birds met at Mrs. Weldon Morris home for singing acting and games in the evening.

Miss Melba Culpepper Marries Paul Tullock at Berea Church

An February 13 Berea Church wedding united Miss Melba Culpepper and Paul Tullock in a ceremony noted for simplicity and sacredness. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Culpepper of Jefferson, wore Chantilly lace with a chapel train, and carried white tulips and lilies. Groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. R N Tullock of Nashville. Pastor E E Carmen led the vows with music by Mrs. Murrell Connell. Attendants included Miss Bernice Gober, Miss Charlotte Eller, Miss Wanda Tullick, and Miss Ann Durocher. The celebration featured gladiola decorations and red and white carnations.

Major Richmond, formerly Executive Officer of the 58th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron at Eielson AFB Alaska, rotates to Stewart AFB New York on Feb 4 1925. Robert Jenkins in Training at Fort Bliss

Pvt. Robert G. Jenkins, son of Mr and Mrs T G Jenkins Midland and formerly of Jefferson, has returned to Fort Bliss for eight weeks of specialized army training after spending leave with his parents. He will be trained in 9 millimeter artillery. His first eight weeks of basic were at Fort Bliss.

Mrs Etta Hill Taken By Death

Mrs. Etta Sterrett Hill, longtime Jefferson resident, died February 2 at home. Funeral services were held February 23 at Haggard Funeral Chapel with Rev. Edwin Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery. A First Baptist Church member, she was born March 22, 1878 in West Minster South Carolina. Survivors include son Meade Sterrett Sr. of Jefferson, grandsons Meade Jr. and Robert H. Sterrett, a sister Kate Alford of Genoa Texas, and two Air Force stationed grandsons. Pallbearers were J. H.
