The First Baptist Church at Jefferson marks 100 years since its 1855 founding with 600 members and 500 in Sunday School. Rev. Fdaar Parker will lecture, with invites to former pastors and members. A 2 to 5 p.m. reception follows in the church dining hall. The program recalls the 1874 first Southern Baptist Convention west of the Mississippi.

Methodist At Smithland Set Revival August 21
The Smithland Methodist Church announces a revival starting Sunday August 21 and running through Saturday August 27. The Rev. Powell Rites Held For Roy D Powell In Jefferson
Roy Dayton Powell 47 of Berea died at Terry De Ware Clinic Jefferson at 1 45 am Saturday. Funeral held Sunday at 2 pm from S D A Church Berea with Pastor E W Koenig. Burial in Berea Cemetery. Survived by wife Lola Mae Powell and parents three sons five daughters two grandchildren and several siblings. Pallbearers listed. Powell had suffered months ill health at Baylor Dallas before transfer to Jefferson clinic.

Weekend burglaries end with confession of Melvin Young
Two businesses were broken into during the weekend with Dairy Queen and Colonial Koffee Shop entry attempts. Melvin Young, 19, released July 29 from Huntsville State Penitentiary, confessed to Sheriff Lake Walker and is held for the Dairy Queen case while Denton Drug also reported off hours entry with broken glass, tries for cash and jewelry. Fingerprints from the breakage are being checked.

Relative Of Local People Buried At Lassater
Thomas Cameron aged 14, son of Mr and Mrs EF and Page of Shreveport, was buried at Pyland Cemetery Lassater after a funeral in Shreveport. He died Monday from a head injury suffered during a baseball game in Shreveport last Saturday. He was related to the Moores Bennetts of Jefferson and Lassater.
