A fragmented report details cotton goods trade dullness in Jefferson and broader New York markets. It notes limited activity, some Brown sheetings selling at two pence per yard, and a lull in goods with few price changes and lingering demand.
Local column reports include Mite Society events at Mrs. John Harker and Miss Enza Minn nuptials in Greene County Iowa, plus a Jefferson Ladies Church Aid meeting at Mrs Cakeley. Notes praise Dr Grimmell, list business cards for carpenters and an attorney, and announce Post 80s G A R meeting. Easter eggs priced, ads urge readers to buy bargains and stock goods. Weathered items warn of railroad and county bridge risks from high water.
A garbled 19th century spread touts Selenies and Blair's Addition to Jefferson for shade trees and street beautification. It reports plans for two daily mails between Council Bluffs and Chicago, new rail freight and passenger services, and a hardware firm dissolution. It mentions Avon Agricultural warehouse and freight car ambitions, plus extensive notes on rail expansion toward the Missouri river and the West.
The page contains a meteorological table for the week ending April 7 with wind and temperature notes. It also includes farming notices about subscriptions, homesteads in Iowa’s Kossuth and surrounding counties, a Dixon locality update, and an encouragement to plant fruit seeds this year for future yields.
