Moscow May 18 AP The possibility of a temporary Anglo American alliance against Japanese expansion is raised in com ment on President Roosevelt s message by for Industrialization the organ of the commissariat for heavy industry After the Washington rehearsal for the world economic conference the United States now appears in the role of world arbiter but several governments have refused to accept that arbitration Japan s stand would be affected by the Roosevelt low agg session proposals and Japan also is opposed to the MacDonald disarmament plan which is supported by the American president Thus the editorial asserted Japan faces the necessity of declaring itself not only against Roosevelt but against MacDonald which may foreshadow a temporary Anglo American alliance against Japan s desire to increase its expansion As the United States also is interested in French diplomatic support against its Asiatic rival it now assumes a more decisive position against the revisional intentions of Germany which places Germany in a very unpleasant position The publication remarked that the Roosevelt declaration follows President Wilsons pacifist traditions Soviet diplomacy has its own peculiar way of looking at Bourgeoise pacifism but it is ready as always to support proposals designed to prevent war.

Railroads Seek To Use Same Track Between Elwood And Troy
On May 18 AP the St. Joseph and Grand Island Railway and the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railroad asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for permission to rearrange facilities between Elwood and Troy Kansas. The two lines would abandon about seven miles each while keeping connected segments for through traffic. The Grand Island would abandon tracks from a point between Watina and Blair to Troy with Blair and Troy depots closed. Rock Island would abandon a section near Elwood to between Watina and Blair, retaining no station buildings. Officials say merging lines would remove duplication and cut operating costs.
