Movie star in narrow escape as boats crash

A yacht collision off Greenwich Connecticut left one sailor drowned and ten rescued, including film star Claire Windsor aboard the Lolita owned by Phillip N Plant. The Chang Wan III towed survivors to Indian Harbor Yacht Club as crews searched wreckage. Captain Hatfield led the Lolita with Plant at the wheel. the Chang Wan III and captains Hibeley and Hatfield coordinated rescue efforts.

New Faculty Named at University of Missouri

The University of Missouri announces new faculty appointments led by Dr Carl George Vinson as horticulture professor and Dr W J Robbins elevated to dean of the graduate school. Death of Elmer Sperry Father of the Gyroscope

Elmer Sperry, inventor of the gyroscope and holder of about 400 patents, died after a surgical relapse at St. John’s Hospital. The Cortland Indiana native described his inventions as distinct personalities while building multiple enterprises including the Sperry Gyroscope Company later sold to Curtiss. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Capone Brother Ralph J Capone Sentenced to Leavenworth

Ralph J Capone brother of Al Scarface Capone was sentenced to three years at Leavenworth and fined ten thousand dollars for income tax fraud two counts. He also drew two years in Cook County Jail and another ten thousand fine on the second count, with the latter suspended. Government evidence showed accounts under assumed names and about 1.871 million dollars deposited 1924 to 1929 from bootlegging gambling and related activities.

Washington June 16 AP Ambassador Dawes says after 20 years of uncomfortable collars he found real comfort in a wing collar in London. Eight Toledoans Missing After Lake Erie Search

A search by air and boat failed to locate eight Toledoans missing since Saturday after they went to Pelee Island in a speed boat. The vessel was found drifting off Put-in-Bay with three life preservers and a hat aboard. Investigators combed Western Lake Erie shores and nearby islands but no trace was found.
