A yacht collision off Greenwich Connecticut left one sailor drowned and ten rescued, including film star Claire Windsor aboard the Lolita owned by Phillip N Plant. Death of Elmer Sperry Father of the Gyroscope
Elmer Sperry, inventor of the gyroscope and holder of about 400 patents, died after a surgical relapse at St. John’s Hospital. The Cortland Indiana native described his inventions as distinct personalities while building multiple enterprises including the Sperry Gyroscope Company later sold to Curtiss. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
