Man and Dog Sail From St Louis in 18 Foot Boat
A 50 year old East St. Louis man Jack F. Ellis Jr. and his dog Salty departed from the St. Louis Mound City boat dock in an 18 foot sailboat for a projected two year voyage around South America. Ellis, a former McDonnell Aircraft electrician, plans to sail the Mississippi Gulf of Mexico past South America Cape Horn through the Panama Canal and back up the Mississippi River. He has about eight years of commercial fisherman sailing experience and built the boat himself. He said simply I am going. That's all there is to it.

Teens found dead in car from carbon monoxide
In Anaconda Missouri an 18 year old boy Billy Joe Schoeneman and 18 year old Helen Gauer were found dead inside the boy's car three miles southwest of Anaconda in Franklin County. Authorities said carbon monoxide poisoning from a running engine caused the deaths. Both mufflers were defective and a tailpipe was missing. The victims were from St Clair Missouri. Schoeneman parked at his brother in law's driveway and left the car running to provide heat.
