Heavy Guard At Holding For Negro In Maryville Slaying

Maryville Missouri reports a violent crime case as Raymond Gunn, a 20 year old ex convict, is held after confessing to the slaying of teacher Jelma Colter at a rural school. Gunn describes meeting the teacher at her door and pursuing her inside as she screamed. He claims Colter fought back as he tried to seize her and beat her with a club. The suspect was rushed to St. Joseph for safety amid possible mob violence after the confession.

Double guard placed over St Joseph station in Gunn case

The Central police station in St Joseph was guarded after Raymond Gunn a Negro confessed to killing Miss Velma Colter 19 near Maryville. Detectives searched Maryville for the murder weapon and a wrist watch taken from the victim. A separate appeal by 100 miners and Adair County Coal Company employees to President Hoover over a proposed 1 day wage cut was sent to Secretary Doak.

Planes Join In Hunt For Bank Robbers Near Bogne Swamp

Aerial search joined 300 plus ground forces in Safford Alabama as four bandits three men two whites and one Negro hid in Bogne Chitto Swamp. Planes with machine guns and smoke bombs scouted dawn to noon while bloodhounds were dropped from Mississippi dogs replaced Kilby Prison hounds shot by bandits. The desperate trio reportedly planned a $4000 hold up and were armed.

Bank Robbers Escape After Looming Heist

Officials say Marion Junction State Bank robbery yielded about 4000 dollars. Bandits fled in an automobile through Orrville to Fla, exchanging shots with officers. Deputies pursued, the car was abandoned in a ditch and torched. Sheriff Hamner set a large posse around a swamp as National Guardsmen joined the pursuit.

Designer leaps from plane during test flight in Ohio

Stephen A. Forberger, project engineer of the Fokker Company, lost confidence in a two motorized army bomber as motors sputtered. He jumped and died when the parachute failed to save him before hitting a tree. Lieutenant Harrison Crocker landed the craft safely at Wright Field after the dead stick descent. Forberger helped develop several modern combat plane designs and was being moved from New Jersey to Ohio for testing.

C. O. B. Team Wins Game With Mokane

The C. O. B. basketball team of the city defeated Mokane 29 to 16 last night. The Cubs led from the start and held a commanding advantage throughout. The organization sponsors baseball in summer and basketball in winter, though not strictly athletic. Miss Adah Sturgeon of Chicago public schools is due to visit Wednesday evening for the holiday break with her mother Mrs. M. J. Sturgeon and sister Mrs. Guy Walrod.
