Missouri to place state funds in time deposits by Monday
State Treasurer G Hubert Bates announced Missouri will have between 50 and 60 million dollars in interest bearing time deposits in state banks by next Monday. He plans to hold about 64.52 million in non interest bearing reserves for government operations until January 14. The idle funds amendment allows investing idle money. deposits will earn 1 percent annual interest, compounded quarterly. Depositories must transfer funds by December 17 or Bates will reallocate. Withdrawals require 30 days notice. a ruling by Gen John Dalton said the amendment is self enforcing and investments can proceed without new legislation.
