INDEPENDENCE AP Gov Joseph Teasdale addressed more than 500 at his fifth of seven Meet the Governor forums. He defended his first year in office, pressed press criticism, and answered questions on crime, nursing homes, welfare funds, and local issues. He pledged no income tax hike in his first term and urged a positive view of his administration.

Few AFCS staff accept transfer to Scott AFB Belleville
In Belleville Illinois Maj Carl Freemen said only 360 of 740 civil service employees with the Air Force Communications Service chose to move to the unit’s new headquarters at Scott Air Force Base. Forty six new workers have been hired at Scott and 277 more are needed as transfers and federal hires fill slots. About seven original positions were cut to avoid duplication with other Scott offices. AFCS handles all Air Force communications.
