Five Men Leave For Armed Forces From Cole County

Cole county's December draft contingent of five men left this morning for Kansas City to be inducted into the armed forces. Mrs Edna Schreen said the group departed by bus at 1 am. The five are Norman E. Strobel, 24, Lehman. Leroy Wilders, 23, Revue 3. Jack L. Branch, 22, 106 Maple street. Eugene J. Roark, 22, 720 Jeffersonette. and Robert W. Sullen, 22, Route 2. A sixth man was deferred temporarily. Since June, Cole county has sent 47 men to the armed forces, with 44 from Jefferson City and three transferred. No January quota. Missouri must supply 1,193 men for February. National call for February is 56,000.

A daughter was born Saturday night to Mr and Mrs Norbert Wolters Route 3 and a baby girl born this morning to Mr and Mrs Richard Patient Route 5, both at St Marys Hospital.

Dial Cut Over Here Brings Rash of Calls

Jefferson Cilians switched to a dial telephone system yesterday. Capital City Telephone Company reported 38,000 calls placed in 11 hours, 10,000 above the 24 hour norm. Fire department received 85 alarms, mostly by mistaken dialing, as callers aimed for the information number 113 rather than the fire line 118.

Theater Fire Destroys Jefferson City Theater 1947

A Sunday fire destroyed the Gem Amusement theater in Jefferson City built in 1906. Fire Chief Swilivan could not confirm the cause. The building, valued at 12 500, had a storied past with actors like David Warfield and George M. Cohan. A delivery truck near the wall was crushed, with damages expected to reach six figures. A razing contract had been awarded to a local contractor for a new office building.

Heart Group Adopts Ten-Point Program

The Missouri Heart association adopted a ten point program to fight heart diseases. Dr A M Estes of Cape Girardeau presides and cites research information dissemination and community service to organize local agencies as key for 1951. Plans include accredited heart clinics forums national research support and more local chapters. First affiliated chapters are Cooper County Southwest Missouri and Greater Kansas City Heart associations.

Funeral Held Today For Oscar H Hausman

Oscar H. Hausman, 72, died Saturday at his Eldon home after a stroke two weeks earlier. Funeral services and burial were held this afternoon. Hausman was born February 9 in Illinois and lived in Eldon most of his life, where he was a respected farmer.
