At the eleventh hour the fertilizer from Texas arrived and is praised as genuine Raw Bone. Swift's refrigerator cars kept it in good condition during the long journey. The ad notes abundant Superior Drills, urges orders, and extols farming implements and a Henney buggy as essential for farmers.
Jasper team edged Blue Star 12 to 9 at Jasper grounds in a strong exhibition. Bob Burkett starred in the infield with hard hitting. A rematch against Golden City is set for next Sunday the 29th, with 1.52 admission for adults and 1.00 for children, ladies free, game at 3:00 p.m.
Hazel and Thelma Cather aged 4 and 2 from the Duval area were taken ill last week after eating cheap colored candy on Thursday morning. The younger child faced a perilous prognosis, but both have narrowly recovered and are now out of danger. Dr. Knott attended the girls, who are the daughters of Mr and Mrs Jake Cather.
Dr Knott reports the birth of a girl baby to Mr and Mrs George Ward living three miles north of Jasper on Tuesday morning.
Jailer Weaver at Carthage county jail exposed a prisoner escape plan led by Floyd Crabtree. From an obscure remark, Weaver watched the 13 prisoners in corridor 1 and ordered all except Crabtree to cells. Crabtree confessed after being confronted with a hidden saw blade and file, revealing the plan to saw bars and free themselves.
In the business district, a box of kittens sparked a dispute over ownership. Messrs Putnam and Lyona received the litter from a mysterious admirer, then C. C. Swanson took custody, later passing them to a neighbor, with final ownership still unresolved.
Tom Lowe has submitted his resignation as police judge of Jasper to the city clerk, with the council to act at the regular meeting on Monday, October 7. He served nearly five years and will move to Claremore, Indian Territory, to buy a barber shop and resume his trade. His successor is not yet certain. The fall millinery opening at Mrs. C. E. Campbell's drew large attention, with many shoppers and even skeptical male spectators. The display was praised as among the best and a standout in town, featuring a distinctive children's clothing window decoration and notable music by the local orchestra. James Johnston and fellow workers at the Gunoor hotel site in Joplio survived a 80 foot elevator fall from the 5th story to the basement when the hoisting platform dropped. The flooring broke their descent, leaving all men severely shaken but unharmed with no broken bones. Johnston praised providence for the miraculous escape.
