The note claims the team is too busy to write ads praising Henney buggies, Mandt wagons, Bain flour, Mayflower coffee, and turkey sacks. It suggests business may warrant sending the boss away for a vacation if the strong sales continue through the week.
Ground reports indicate an asphalt factory will be built near the present shaft to ready rock for market. Farmers with asphalt land anticipate a railroad branch to Jasper or Neck City, boosting Jasper’s prospects and local farmer wealth as the district’s rock proves ample.
Rev E A King arrived from Enid Oklahoma to bolster anti saloon sentiment in the city. He spoke from Webb Broadstore platform on The Balloon Must Go and urged strong temperance measures. He preached at the M E church Sunday evening with prohibition and temperance again as the theme.
Golden City haseball team did not appear for a scheduled game with the Jasper boys on local grounds last Sunday. Reasons not stated left the home team with a possibly weak lineup and Barton County’s lead remains intact. A corub game followed to vent energy. The Golden City game may be played next Sunday.

Blatchley W. Corder died at his sister Misa Alice Corder’s home last Monday afternoon after a long battle with dropsy. Services were held at the M E church and he was buried in Mitchell cemetery. Born in Macoupin County, Illinois, Aug. 22, 1858, he was 49. Survived by wife Nettie and four children. He had recently returned from Colorado to Missouri. He was a Free Methodist and known as a kind, honest man. His wife and children plan to return to Colorado.
All mines in the Missouri Kansas mining district have resumed operation after a four week shutdown. The shutdown yielded poorer results than hoped and ore prices are only slightly higher than before. The low price is blamed on many operators not following the order, while a stronger factor may be increased Mexican ore shipments. Some in the know say prices may not rise to last year’s level again.
Burkett joined Sarcoxie at Sarcoxie Friday to aid the baseball team in a two game set against the Republic Monitors. Both clubs claim status to the amateur southwest Missouri title. Prior meetings had Republic winning three of four. Sarcoxie swept the series, tying the season series, though neither club claims the championship amid strong squads at Clinton and Julia Pugh. Bolivar blocks Miss Julia Pugh’s path to the honor.
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Lynn welcomed to Miss Teter's room. Gus Campbell from the class of 08 teaches budding shooters at Bloomingdale. Miss Teter and Misa Evans attended a Village Teachers digoviation in Duenweg reporting an interesting meeting. Seniors submitted graduating themes. Lana Owings visited last Friday. A Friday meeting approved a $50 increase for Physical Geography lab equipment. Enrollment for the first month stood at 225 with 208 attending daily. total high school enrollment 75% pursuing secondary work. Forty pupils come from the country.
