Barton County Fair postponed after heavy rains flooded the grounds Tuesday night and Wednesday. Water reached three feet at the main entrance and higher in spots. Workers moved stock and exhibits to safety overnight. Directors rescheduled the event for October 13 to 16.
The Epworth League of the M S Church held two programs at the church last week. A Friday reception for eighth grade and high school students featured welcome addresses by the pastor and Mrs J J Thomas, with responses by Prof S J Hart and Mendel Drake. Sunday night Tangue led a rally and the pastor spoke, with the music praised. Miss Ethel Meterson serves as president and directs the League’s work at the M E Church.
South Carolina will join a growing list of states with statewide prohibition starting January 1, 1916 after a statewide election on Tuesday the 14th. Thirty counties already under local option prohibition reported majorities in favor.
A W Schott will hold a sale at his present home two miles south and one mile west of Jasper next Tuesday September 24. The event includes 3 head of horses 11 head of dairy cattle several Poland China hogs implements and a lot of goat Rhode Island Red chickens. Schott has selected his dairy herd carefully noting the cows and heifers are choice. A W Tradford will lead the sale as Schott moves to Wartell Labette County Kansas where he has bought a farm. The publisher of his paper has long familiarity with Labette County and expects Schott to join an excellent community of progressive farmers.
Regular church services scheduled for next Sunday at M E Church both morning and evening to close the year. Sunday School and Epworth League urged. tally Day noted. Jasper Baptist Church outlines Sept 26 schedule with 10 a m Sunday School and 11 a m sermon on Whose image and superscription is this Evening service at 7 pm all welcome. HM Sharp purchased the building occupied by the Sharp hardware store from H F Pitts who owned it. Pitts had bought the property about a year earlier from the Schoolcraft estate.
At the annual M. N. Church, South conference in Slater Missouri last week, Reverend J. B. Strong presiding elder and Reverend C. A. Lewis pastor of Jasper Church were both returned, pleasing local church members and friends.
The News lists births to Dr Knott to T W Griffin and wife six miles northeast a girl on Wednesday September 15 and to Harris Coleman and wife eight miles northwest a boy on Saturday September 15.
Deceased Minnie Guy died last week at her sister’s home in Mort Worth Texas. Her body was brought to Carthage for funeral services at the first M. J. Church. She was a former schoolmate of Miss Nori Fox while both studied at Marionville College. Cray has visited Jag per. Her brother Rev. Dr. Wim. Gray of Flint Michigan lectured at the M. kh. Church about three years ago after returning from years in Panama.
Sick Ones Improving Henry Graham of Lebanon neighborhood, who fell on the prongs of a pitchfork when a load of hay overturned with him, seems to be improving and it is expected that he will be out soon. Marsh Dearderil, suffering with bronchial abscess, is slowly improving but still confined to his bed. Mrs M J Arner has been quite ill the past ten days and is steadily improving.
Mrs Eda Holderman sister of Mrs Patterson and stepsister of Mrs Wim Riee was killed in a Pueblo Colorado automobile accident last Sunday. She lived here years ago and had many local friends and relatives. She was about 60 years old. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the M E Church Rev Work Chatten conducting. burial at Salem Church Cemetery.

Notes on barn fire near Budd Bros, school progress at Blue School with Miss Hobson, and various family visits and births.
John Ward tied his horse to a relay at Cord store before rain, moved it to Carr's barn and forgot it. He searched town with City Marshal Tabler. at noon the horse was missing. He later found the horse, bridle, and saddle at the art barn untouched.
