Local writer Uncle J jokes about excessive rain and compares it to Noah’s Ark. He lists items he would save including a Simmons separator, a Towa dairy cream separator, Buster Brown shoes, cloaks from Conrad's, and various tools. He praises Conrad's store and invites neighbors to visit Uncle J at the shop.
M. V. Hancock of Jasper is named defendant in a circuit court suit filed Saturday by W. D. Mullen. Mullen claims he bought Hancock’s barber shop in April and that Hancock agreed not to engage in barber business in Jasper. He alleges Hancock operates a Jasper shop again and seeks an injunction. Shannon and Phelps represent the plaintiffs.
Miss Flossie E. Turner and Otis Rice, well known in Jasper, were married last Saturday afternoon by Judge N. Kelso in Carthage. The couple, eldest daughter of H F Turner and wife and son of Jasper Rice and wife, plan to reside on the former Dr. King's property. In other notes, E J Lauderbaugh attends the Lockwood fair, Ward and Moulton ship hogs to Webb City, Tom Kunkler returns from Oklahoma and Paris with mules, cotton crop is below standard while feeds are good, Gulick receives premium money and travels to the Oklahoma State Fair then to Muskogee for the New State Fair.

City authorities step up on spitting tobacco juice along sidewalks. City Marshal John Ward instructs The News to report that the nuisance must stop or legal enforcement will follow, especially in front of Harbur's store.
A brief office notice states old papers are available at five cents for a large bundle. The message is terse with no additional dates or names.
Jasper News reports C W Sample's radio style field note from Roswell New Mexico dated September 3. He describes the Pecos Valley location on the Santa Fe Railroad the near one and a half hour train ride from Joplin. He notes flat productive land with apples and alfalfa and a mixed population. drought has brought dull times but recent showers bring hope.
Next Monday night the St Louis Conference Methodist Preachers' Male Quartet will present a program at MEB Church. The group has performed at conventions and conferences and has drawn praise for its singing. Admission costs 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for school children over 16. public invited. Lloyd Schooler, brother of Dr J K Schooler, visited Jasper last week and now resides in Glencoe Oklahoma. This is his first return since his family left Jasper about 19 years ago.
The Alpha Club and friends entertained Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Roberts home with fern and flower decorations. Mrs J N Marsh sang songs with her accompaniment, and a 4 course dinner task led to prize awards for J Ketchum and J W Spaid. Punch was served by H F Pitts. a dainty collation followed.
The township Sunday School convention at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon was well attended. Addresses by Eli Scott Mrs A M Crandall and R E Hurt were thoroughly enjoyed along with impromptu discussions by others.
The News lists newborns including a boy to Clarence Wells and wife near the north farm on Saturday the 6th, a boy to Charles Livingston and wife at Carthage on Thursday the 7th, and a girl to A L Helms and wife one mile north of Jasper on Tuesday September 16.
John Stansberry of eight miles northeast of Jasper was bitten on the arm by a hydrophobic horse. He was at neighbor Mr. Tilley’s home helping care for a horse when the incident occurred. Dr. Sincoler administers rabies treatment to Mr. Stansberry.
R J Wallace of northwest Kansas purchased the Henney farm three miles north of Jasper from the tbeacre farm and gains possession March 11 under a contract arranged by Jin Hull. Kelley now occupies the property.
Ross Farr, a well known young farmer west of Jasper, stepped on Sunday night and fell against a wagon wheel, slicing his chin and needing several stitches from Dr Schooler. A Male Quartet will sing at the M E church next Monday. admission is 1 cent.
