Mrs C W Bigger of Carthage to resign as secretary of the County Sunday School organization due to a sprained ankle and ongoing crutch use. The article notes her long service and that a successor has not been appointed while mentioning Mrs Horton’s operation at Carthage Hospital Tuesday morning and her good condition.
Red Cross asks workers with yarn to finish and turn in promptly for forwarding to headquarters. Two meetings set in Carthage this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Library for officers and 1 40 p.m. at First M Ki Church for all interested. Mrs. Jess will leave Jasper County Red Cross ladies for a state role in St Louis.
County Farm Agent J H H Mote will demonstrate culling non laying hens from the flock at L W Boyer’s home two miles south and 434 west of Jasper and a half mile south of Dixie Schoolhouse on Tuesday afternoon the 17th instant. All are invited to attend.

Clarence and Ralph Band and Frank Moulton left for Drury College Springfield to join the Students Army Training Corps. They will be soldiers in the U S Army upon admission, receive uniforms and pay 130 a month, with board and lodging, military and academic instruction, and discipline under Army officers. They may be selected for further training or special schools as needed.
Miss Daisy Kunkler daughter of T. L. Kunkler and wife married Chester Hamilton a Jasper area farmer. Ceremony held at Rev. C. H. Swift’s Carthage Christian Church home. Bride praised by Jasper’s young set. will reside on a farm with Hamilton. Friends extend congratulations.
Mrs Sadie Brooks will present a sugarless demonstration Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs David Houser. Mrs Lynn Shepard Kay of Webb City will give a talk on sugar.
Washington announces a supplement to wheat conservation rules. Victory Mixed Flours must carry a set percentage of substitutes. products with 20 percent or more substitutes may be sold without added substitutes if the mix is after September 1. Pancake and self rising flours require a special permit and may be sold with substitutes. Retailers not required to buy substitutes but must supply proper ratios. Milling inspection and internal revenue licenses apply to Victory Mixed Flours. Farmers must receive whole wheat or prescribed mixes or substitute portions with standard flour. limited exemptions may be authorized by Federal Food Administrators with Zone Committee approval.
Frank Baston, resident seven miles north of Jasper, passed through Jasper Saturday returning from the Old Settler's Annual Reunion and Picnic not Moss Springs. He noted arriving in Jasper County in 1866 and camping at the springs. Baston says his bottom land corn yields about 75 bushels per acre this year.
Uriah Smith purchased the Crawford farm three miles north of Alba on the Baseline. The 210 acre property, long rented by Buxton for 30 years, was acquired after months of negotiation. The purchase price was 15000 dollars.
Charley Wine, home from Doniphan last Friday on a seven day furlough, reports he has joined the Veterinary Corps. He notes an epidemic of glanders among horses this summer and a common hoof disease, and he fears little chance of getting to France.
John A. McMillan of Carthage, a Republican candidate for county collector, spent Tuesday in Jasper as part of his campaign swing.
