Government and newspaper notices warn retailers canning season ends October 20 1918 and no home canning certificates or sugar allowances will be issued thereafter. Also a subscription renewal reminder notes War Industries Board rule prohibits continuing subscriptions beyond three months after expiration unless renewed and paid.
M. E. Church cancels services until further notice due to influenza concerns per city guidance. Pastor J. W. Moore states the hope to resume regular work once danger passes.
War department explains Christmas parcels for American Expeditionary Force in Europe and U S Navy vessels. One standard size parcel per person, with a labeled sender, Red Cross inspection, and mailing through Port of Embarkation Hoboken. Eligible inscriptions allowed. deadline November 20 1918. weight limits differ by force.
An eleventh hour rally Saturday afternoon pushed Jasper past its Fourth Liberty Bond quota with more than $20,000 raised. The report lists Jasper’s allocations across Red Cross, war bonds, and war savings stamps, noting a total of $284,484 in contributions to date plus a separate $2,300 from a Red Cross sale.
Congressman Perl Decker from the Fifteenth District will address an open-air gathering in Jasper on Thursday morning October 24 at 10 o'clock. It marks the first political speech of the campaign in the area and is expected to attract a large crowd.
T H B Bell received a fine Oxford ewe near Sedalia on Tuesday, bought at the State Fair. The ewe took second premium, her half sister won first, and the seller calls this one the finer of the two. She weighed in, cost Mr Bell $100.

J L Crawford and J L Harriman contracted influenza and were confined to bed. Dick Kunkler and Ir Schooler showed mild cases or overwork symptoms. Dr Knott recovered from influenza and returned to Carthage Hospital. Dick DearDorff and family remain ill while Rev Pinnell’s household reports four flu cases including Mrs Pinnell Mia Wallace and Mrs Mikkelson. The latest case is T L Kunkler.
