The News office and both banks offer the Jasper Fair premium list. J. F. Gulick attends the Ozark Stock Show in Springfield this week.
The Jasper area announces a county fair opening Tuesday October 14 with premiums totaling one thousand dollars across livestock and product divisions. Exhibits encouraged in horses cattle hogs sheep poultry and domestic arts with no entry fees and prize money awarded. A registered hog sale is planned and Crawford Bros tent show plus a merry go round and band will provide amusements.
Hugo Brunner received a letter from his brother the city treasurer in a Swiss town. The note details weight loss from 205 to 145 pounds overwork and poor food amid scarcity and high prices. He mentions their mother aged 81 and aunt 85 likely not alive when the letter arrives. He adds Germany's fate and dire finances of neighboring countries.
Mrs Robert Wolfe near Jasper entertained for her son Vernon the Sunday School class of Zion Church and other guests Saturday night. Games and contests filled the evening with refreshments served by the hostess. A week earlier Miss Helen Scott, teacher of the class, was hostess. The class will meet with its members during the winter.
