County superintendent Prof. I W Kost reports very satisfactory attendance in Jasper County schools. More pupils attend than in any former year, truancy is down, and little trouble has occurred. The overall count shows few youths of school age out of class.
Freshmen struggled with definitions while seniors faced a geometry quiz on earth circumference. A list of names, minor romances, and prankish notes surfaced on a classroom floor alongside news of a literary society election and a student hat sale at Vogue Hat Shop.
Howard Finley a 17 year old adopted son of Mr Wise living on the base five to miles southeast of Jasper broke his leg Monday while driving the team to a hay hauling machine. The double tree broke and the sweep sprang back striking him above the knees.
National district manager T. C. Triplett aided by the local deputy Florida L. Burks formed a Knights and Ladies of Security council at I C O F Hall Friday night in Jasper county. Seventeen charters exist in the county with 4300 members. Officers installed include Dr R King president Mrs H J Deardorf vice president Rev Gurly prelate J W Bowers second vice president Homer Deardorff treasurer Annie Hardenbrook secretary Ethel Masters conductress Ella Porter assistant conductress P V Roberts guard W A Totinson sentinel. A social session followed with speeches exchanged and a red apples game. A Tamar crowd attended and a sale of toys was noted at Roberts. Also mentions farm loan by Webb Bros. and new toys display.
Vital statistics show September deaths in Jasper County with leading causes listed as heart and circulatory diseases six, Brights disease six, tuberculosis four, typhoid two, accidents two, homicide one, acute nephritis one, acute poliomyelitis one, cancer one, other diseases nervous system one, diarrhea and enteritis under two one, total deaths thirty seven. Births incomplete in the fragment.
The Jasper district convention at Joplin elected officers for the coming year including State president Mrs. Kove EF Newton reelected district president Susie Mills Howe of Joplin corresponding secretary. Carthage's Mrs. Billa Richmond recording secretary. Carthage's Maggie Stemmons treasurer. Jasper's Amanda Mackey delegate at large.
Reports from Webb City describe several vandalism incidents including a $100 buggy damaged by axe in Ashcraft premises, a Baptist Church piano wreck, and YMCA rooms piano destruction. No clues yet to the culprits.
The Young Disciples Sunday school class social gathered Friday night November 24 at Mr and Mrs Hammond home. Attendees included Flossie Patterson Jewel Tunnell Myrtle Winder Esther Patterson Pearl Tunnell Maude Wright Ola Sullivan Olive Patterson and several men led by Mr and Mrs Hammond. After games music and singing, refreshments of cake pie and fruit were served as the group departed at a late hour praising the hosts as royal entertainers.
Mrs Elizabeth Miller wife of Fern Miller from four miles northwest of Jasper died last Friday. Funeral held at the Blue school house with Rev W O Thompson of the by M E Church officiating. Burial at Waters Cemetery. Age 86 years 7 months 5 days. Born May 16 1931 in Brown County Ohio. Survived by husband John Wardlow one son from former marriage, 10 children, 30 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many friends. She had lived 16 years in the home where she died.

Dr D T Roubertson, a popular lecturer, will speak at the ME Church on Thursday night December 7. Banked by the Keidsouth Lyceum Bureau, the act promises high class talent and a guaranteed performance. Jasper Ramblers beat Alba Athletic Club 68 to 16 with Bowers scoring 9 and Persinger 3 among top contributors. Owings, Strecker, and Steimer provided strong defense while the Ramblers dominated every quarter. Uniforms drew jokes as the team showcased depth and pace on home court.
